It's official: "Fox News North" is a failure!
http://www.marketingmag.ca/news/media-news/sun-news-drawing-as-little-as-4000-viewers-during-some-time-slots-26636

Despite launching in the middle of a federal election, the new Sun News Network has so far had little impact on the Canadian news scene.

The Quebecor venture launched April 18 after months of “Fox News North” buzz and had an estimated 37,000 viewers across Canada tune in for its initial half-hour, when it hit the airwaves with a splashy promise of “hard news and straight talk.”

(snip)

By the end of Sun News’s first week, shows featuring Winnipeg-based radio host Charles Adler and Ottawa-based journalist Brian Lilley were drawing 4,000 and 5,000 viewers across Canada in their evening slots (Adler had opened the week with 31,000 viewers and Lilley with 17,000).

(snip)

The marquee evening newscasts in Canada consistently draw in the half million to 1.3 million viewers range per night.

Much more at the link.

2. Must be there aren't enough stupid Canadians
to keep Faux News alive up there in the north. Unfortunately it's flourished here in the US. We've got plenty of stupid viewers.

8. Many are stupid. Many more are reasonably intelligent people who have been duped....
...and find it hard to admit it, even when shown the facts.

Many believe it will take personal tragedy before Fox viewers change their minds.

6. Canadians are too busy ignoring the National Post to bother ignoring the Toronto Sun

and it's new TV incarnation. We have enough boring irrelevance
looking at Peter Mansbridge's mug every night. Peter Mansbridge
the Jackie Treehorn of Canadian broadcasting. It's all about. feelings.

7. Beware,,, When Fox started up in the lower-48, they were not an instant success
Edited on Sun May-01-11 04:02 AM by SoCalDem
In fact the only claim to fame they had early-on was the fact that they ran a printed transcript every night after midnight of the OJ trial...for people who worked & wanted to know all the gritty details..

Ultra conservatives play a long-game, and are well funded enough to suffer YEARS of "losses"..

They aim to worm their way into the mainstream..a little at a time, until they are ready to expand and show their true selves..

11. They will probably skirt that issue as long as possible
I do think that Canadian have more sense, as a nation, than we do.. How I wish my grandfather's family had stayed in Ontario, instead of continuing to Kansas.. I would love to be able to retire in Canada.

12. Excellent post.
And a very apt word to the wise.

The fascists have designs on our neighbor to the North.

They could gradually build a following of Fox North. Next thing you know the legislature will be screaming "We must have tax relief! The deficit, the deficit, oh no!" and their solution would include the need to privatize the health care system and public education. Good game plan and it is working to perfection here.

14. Whatever it becomes, it won't become Fox News
We DO have laws that separate news from opinion.

If it's news, you CAN'T lie your ass off about the facts in order to mislead the people.

13. If they can't lie, it won't work.
The secret here in the United States is lying and calling it news is protected free speech according to our judicial system.
