What have you streamed today?
I think it might get people to check in more often if we had a daily update on what you've streamed today, kind of like the "what are you listening to" threads I see in Teh Lounge.

So I'm at this moment streaming X-Men and loving Logan all over again. Earlier today it was The Fugitive. Before that it was The Bourne Identity. Who needs cable?

1. I'm streaming Missing
I'm not thrilled with this show. I don't much like either the first or second season cast, and the plots are getting repetitious. But Catarina Scorsone is enough to keep me watching.

Next Friday I will be streaming Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

14. I watched that and it was interesting.
Twain once visited my city of La Crosse, WI since it is a rivertown on the Mississippi and he thought it might become as big as St. Louis. Unfortunately the lumber business petered out and the city has been stuck around 50,000 for many decades now.

8. I've been streaming episodes of House on justin.tv, a private Roku channel.
I say "streaming" rather than "watching" because the video quality is poor, but then I'm mostly listening to it while I surf the web. Once nice thing about justin.tv is that it plays one episode after another.

A tricky "locked yacht" whodunit with an all-star cast (including a very young Ian McShane--the two actors you may not recognize are Richard Benjamin, who soon went into acting and directing, and Joan Hackett, who died of cancer at a fairly young age) from 1973.

12. Who Is Harry Nilsson
(and why's everybody talkin' about him?)

this is a documentary from 2010. I had seen previews and wanted to see it. I was pleased to find it on Netflix streaming yesterday. I watched it today.

It was very excellent, I think.

My Harry story:

When I was 1 or 13 I used to listen to FM radio at night and fall asleep to it, then it would still be on when I woke up.
One morning, it must have been a weekend, or summer, or possibly both, I woke up to a speaking voice, then the song, "Me and My Arrow" started. After it ended, there was a speaking voice that was only making vague sense, then another song, and I started to "get" that I was listening to a whole story that was a mix of songs and spoken word.

I woke my older brother up so he could listen too. I thought it was really cool, but had no idea what it was. Maybe a week later, my brother came home with Nilsson's "The Point" and gave it to me. I have a great brother.

Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him?)
2006 NR 116 minutes

Brilliant, mysterious singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson cut an indefinable path across the 1960s pop-cultural landscape, garnering such fans as John Lennon and Randy Newman. This discerning documentary lays bare the vast extent of Nilsson's influence. Along with rare archival material -- including home movies and audio clips -- anecdotes from Jon Voight, Van Dyke Parks and other scene makers spotlight the highs and lows of a mercurial career.

Cast:
Harry Nilsson, Jon Voight, Ray Cooper, Micky Dolenz, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Yoko Ono, Van Dyke Parks, Ringo Starr, Robin Williams, Brian Wilson
Director:
John Scheinfeld
Genres:
Documentary, Biographical Documentaries, Rockumentaries, Singer-Songwriters, Rock & Pop
This movie is:
Heartfelt, Sentimental
Format:
DVD and streaming

I first got into Nilsson with Nilsson Schmilsson and Son of Schmilsson. I watched it online but ordered the dvd so I could watch the extras and they were worth it.

Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 02:54 PM by Chimichurri
It begins describing the modern street art movement that had been filmed by an avant-garde french guy with a camera who gets obsessed with capturing street artists on tape and becomes determined to document the most elusive artist of all - Banksy, which he finally gets to do. The documentary evolves from there and takes you on a wild ride. Really good.

Shephard Fairey, the artist who did Obama's infamous campaign poster is also in it.

In this Emmy-nominated miniseries based on the classic story by L. Frank Baum, small-town waitress DG (Zooey Deschanel) is pulled into a surreal world, where she teams up with a trio of misfits, battles an evil sorceress and comes face to face with her destiny. Aided by Cain (Neal McDonough), Glitch (Alan Cumming), Raw and the Mystic Man (Richard Dreyfuss), DG uncovers a link between her past and the Outer Zone's wicked ruler, Azkadellia (Kathleen Robertson).

63. One of the movies that's just gone bye-bye: "La Vie en Rose"
The biopic about Edith Piaf that won Marion Cotillard an Oscar.

Some of the online commenters on IMDB seem to think that her performance was over the top, but from what I understand, Piaf really was that volatile and neurotic. Not surprising for a tremendously talented person who grew up with unimaginable insecurity.

But now I have a reference point. Whenever I'm feeling blue, I can think, "Well, at least my life is better than Edith Piaf's."

74. Watched "Grown Ups"- Adam Sandler---
It was terrible. And not just Adam Sandler terrible. There are a few good laughs, but over all I only gave it one star. Although I am not too fond of the 5 star system. I wish we could give "half" stars.

94. We saw that at the drive in and I was so surprised that I got so emotional over it.
When it came up on Netflix of course we had to watch it!! Still emotional. I think you are right... It may be the best one. My husband keeps saying they'll do a movie with the girl. I don't think so, but you never know. I don't think that would be a good idea, but I know how those movie places get sometimes with the sequels and remakes and crap.

95. I'm pretty sure they'll make a sequel
And it will be about the girl. You know they won't let the franchise die. However, since it's Pixar, it won't suck. BTW: There's an excellent article about Pixar in last week's New Yorker. Excellent read. Well worth looking for. See if they have it at your library.

I normally don't agree with Ebert when it comes to many comedies (I often find films funny that he doesn't) he was really on the mark with this one. Especially when Tracy Morgan's character's hand gets stuck underneath.

And I had rented the discs but never actually watched them, so when they streamed it I decided to watch it. I finished season 1 and have moved over to HuluPlus to catch up on the rest. This is how I caught up on the entire series of Bones and Psych as well. if i keep this up I will have watched every series available on Netflix. LOL

I'm about half way through it. It's pretty good. A bit dated and the cinematography is about what what you'd expect from an early 80s British film. But some of the dialogue is very witty.

full of all the crap the mother bought and maw maw had to use her Jenga skills to move everything. It was funny when the dad used a vacuum to try to pull the baby out. Just trying to watch it when the kids aren't around. My 6 year old went in the living room and started watching it after I told her to get out of my room. I told her she couldn't watch it. Uggh.
