4. I have one out at a time and can get 3 new ones a week if I work it right.
The discs go right to a PO box at my post office so if I were to drop them off on a Monday before 7 p.m. I would get an email on Tuesday morning that they received it and it would be sent off that day and I would get the new one on Wednesday.

Holidays mess that up and so will no Saturday delivery.

6. How long you have to wait depends on how many movies you get a month.
The more movies you make them mail to you, the higher up a certain list you go and all of a sudden movies aren't available for you anymore. That's why I bumped my plan down to one at a time and am streaming like a demon now. Screw 'em.

8. I'm on a one at a time plan
I really think it depends when you put it in your queue.

9. I have one movie out at a time and can get 3 a week if I work it right.
I have very nearly always received the disc at the top of my list the next day after they receive a disc I've returned. I've had to wait maybe twice.

So I can get new movies Mon.-Wed.-Fri. or Tues.-Thurs.-Sat.

I actually have trouble finding a physical disc that I want because there is already so much else to watch.

7. I put it in my queue before it was released on DVD, so it came pretty quickly. Hope
you don't have to wait too long.

11. Watched it this afternoon. Didn't like it at all. Dark and gritty doesn't begin to describe it
for me.

I watch movies for escapism entertainment and not for dark and gritty realism. I've read the reviews of this movie and they are either love it or hate it. I'm in the hate it camp.

If you liked The Road with Viggo Mortensen, you love Winter's Bone:

The Road
2009R 111 minutes

From the ash-covered, post-apocalyptic remains of Appalachia, the Father (Viggo Mortensen) and Son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) take to the road in search of a better life. But the Father's health is failing, lending urgency to a journey impeded by nomadic bands of cannibals. Charlize Theron co-stars in this adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, set in a fictional near future in which the world has been virtually destroyed.

Cast:
Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Garret Dillahunt, Michael K. Williams, Molly Parker, Bob Jennings, Agnes Herrmann
Director:
John Hillcoat
Genres:
Thrillers, Suspense, Dramas Based on Contemporary Literature, Dramas Based on the Book, Blu-ray, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
This movie is:
Dark, Suspenseful
Format:
DVD and Blu-ray

I enjoy Viggo Mortensen, but I stopped this movie after 20 minutes because I couldn't take any more.

12. Did you happen to read the book (The Road)?
I think what I enjoyed most about the movie was how it really captured the essence of the book, which is a remarkable piece of writing, imo.

Dark and gritty is ok by me if the story line merits is. I liked Winter's Bone particularly for the portrayal of the position of women in that society and how the heroine challenges that.

C'est la vie - it is our differences that make the world interesting.

13. No, didn't read the book. Dark and gritty are not my preferred flavors.
Dark and gritty can be ok by me if they are spiced with a little hope.

I've only rarely ever read a book on which a movie is based so I judge the movie on its own merits.

I found Winter's Bone to be pretentious with its attitude that it must be a great movie since it was so dark and gritty and realistic. I'm not sure about the realism though because some of the characters seemed to be caricatures of hillbillies to me.

Like I said, in reading the IMDb reviews most lavishly loved this film, but others did not. There was not much in-between.

15. we found the acting quite remarkable (esp. the lead girl)....
but the movie was so, so dark - our mood was not quite right for it, though it was certainly a movie to appreciate/admire (perhaps more to truly enjoy) for us.
