Ex-Congressman George Santos is on a revenge tour after Republicans lost the seat vacated by his expulsion — and blowing up the New York delegation group chat along the way.
In a text message to some of his former Republican colleagues, who joined state and local GOP leaders in disavowing him and spent months aggressively pushing for his ouster, Santos blamed them for costing the party a seat. Parts of the text chain, a screenshot of which Santos shared with Semafor, were first reported by The Daily Beast. Not everyone was on the list: Rep. Brandon Williams, R-N.Y. apparently didn’t merit a text.
“I hope you guys are happy with this dismal performance and your 10 million for futile Bull Shit cost the party,” he texted the entire New York Republican delegation. “I look very forward to most of you losing due to your absolute hate filled campaign to remove me from Congress arbitrarily. Now go tell the Republicans Base what you fucking idiots did and good luck raising money next quarter.”
Rep. Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y., is the only member who appeared to reply: “Sorry, new phone, who dis?“ he texted. He did not respond to a request for comment.

7 arrested in attack on NYPD officers near migrant shelter in Times Square

NEW YORK -- Two more suspects are under arrest Thursday for allegedly attacking two NYPD officers outside a migrant center in Times Square.
So far, police have arrested seven of the 12 suspects accused in the attack on Jan. 27, but NYPD officials have blasted the Manhattan District Attorney's Office after some were set free on bail. Surveillance video showed a group of men assaulting officers in front of a migrant center on West 42nd Street, police said.
The video appeared to show two officers in a struggle with a man wearing yellow, followed by a barrage of people taking turns punching and kicking a lieutenant and another officer.
"You want to know why our cops are getting assaulted? There's no consequences and we must change this," said NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell.

WASHINGTON—Chinese nationals, sometimes posing as tourists, have accessed military bases and other sensitive sites in the U.S. as many as 100 times in recent years, according to U.S. officials, who describe the incidents as a potential espionage threat.
The Defense Department, FBI and other agencies held a review last year to try to limit these incidents, which involve people whom officials have dubbed gate-crashers because of their attempts—either by accident or intentionally—to get onto U.S. military bases and other installations without proper authorization. They range from Chinese nationals found crossing into a U.S. missile range in New Mexico to what appeared to be scuba divers swimming in murky waters near a U.S. government rocket-launch site in Florida.
The incidents, which U.S. officials describe as a form of espionage, appear designed to test security practices at U.S. military installations and other federal sites. Officials familiar with the practice say the individuals are typically Chinese nationals pressed into service and required to report back to the Chinese government.

A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed Saturday after she and three others accidentally turned into the wrong driveway while looking for a friend’s house in rural upstate New York, authorities said.
The woman, identified as Kaylin Gillis, was a passenger in a vehicle when a man fired two shots from his front porch, Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy said in a news conference Monday. One of the shots hit the vehicle and struck Gillis, the sheriff said.
The man, 65-year-old Kevin Monahan, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death, Murphy said.

A former high-level FBI agent is facing several charges for his alleged work with a sanctioned Russian oligarch.
Charles McGonigal, the former special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI's New York office, is accused of working with Oleg Deripaska, who has been on the U.S. sanctions list since 2018.
McGonigal's involvement with the Russian billionaire involved taking secret payments for investigating one of Deripaska's rivals. He also worked to get Deripaska off the U.S. sanctions list, in violation of federal law, prosecutors said.
Sergey Shestakov, a U.S. citizen who is a former Soviet and Russian diplomat and federal court interpreter, is facing charges alongside McGonigal. Prosecutors allege Shestakov, 69, and McGonigal worked together to aid Deripaska.

Andre Bing identified as Chesapeake Walmart shooter who killed six

The gunman who opened fire at a Virginia Walmart has been identified as Andre Bing, a manager at the store, who killed six co-workers before taking his own life.
A Facebook Live video apparently made by a Walmart employee had been circulating online showing a co-worker that she calls “Andre.”
The young man is seen joking with the workers before he walks away when the woman points her camera at him. It was unclear when the footage was shot.
Chief of Chesapeake Police Mark Solesky said the gunman killed six co-workers before killing himself with a handgun

UZHHOROD, Ukraine (AP) — U.S. first lady Jill Biden made an unannounced visit to western Ukraine on Sunday, holding a surprise Mother’s Day meeting with the nation’s first lady, Olena Zelenska, as Russia presses its punishing war in the eastern regions.
Biden traveled under the cloak of secrecy, becoming the latest high-profile American to enter Ukraine during its 10-week-old conflict with Russia.
“I wanted to come on Mother’s Day,” Biden told Zelenska. “I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop and this war has been brutal and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine.”
The first lady traveled by vehicle to the town of Uzhhorod, about a 10-minute drive from a Slovakian village that borders Ukraine. She spent about two hours in Ukraine.
