General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow long will the General Discussion Forum be the Guns Forum-B ?
I know that the mass murder in Aurora was really big news and therefore it is reasonable to discuss it here. When should it end?
IMO I think that by Monday morning we should all try to move past the endless arguments about the intent of the second amendment and if banning 100 round magazines would do any good. Nobody is changing their minds on either side. The echo chamber has become disharmonious and is now filled with nothing more than reverberated noise.
There is a forum for this and it is reasonable to expect that these "discussions" move back there. The purpose of this forum is: Discuss politics, issues, and current events. No posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports unless there is really big news. No conspiracy theories. No whining about DU.
The really big news is two days old now. Even Jesus only stayed dead for three (although from 3:00pm Friday to very early Sunday morning is more like a day and a half). Isn't it reasonable to expect The General Discussion Forum to return to it's original purpose after three days?
P.S. I know this constitutes whining about DU. Somebody had to do it.

(50,362 posts)given what has caused "a refreshing change of pace"....the murders of 12 innocent victims and the wounding of 58, using "a refreshing change of pace" is, imo, a very ugly way to describe this.

(39,191 posts)it's sad how the gun deaths of so many is looked upon so callously

(26,219 posts)If you need a change of pace, there are hundreds of groups on this site. One even dedicated to talking about guns.

(44,131 posts)So nice that we have a tragedy so Romney can get a break from those bad DU'ers/

(20,600 posts)thread, you have read them all. It gets boring very quickly to me. I understand some find it endlessly fascinating though.

(4,404 posts)Not that I blame anyone for wanting to talk about it. It's a big tragic issue and everyone wants to weigh in, if only to get their feelings off of their chests.
But eventually it just turns into a bunch of ugly infighting (YOUR GUNS ARE GOING TO KILL EVERYONE!/YOU CAN'T REGULATE THE SIZE OF MY CLIPS!), that honestly will change few, if any minds one way or the other.

(12,448 posts)everybody has long ago made up their minds and nothing is going to change them.
I do find it ironic that the anti-gun folks have seized this opportunity to push for the reinstatement of a law that would not have prevented this mass-murder, but, C'est la vie.
DainBramaged
(39,191 posts)No we conceded, you won. there's no anti-gun, just anti-violence, but you don't get that point.

(12,448 posts)calling for the AWB have cropped up over the last couple of days?
As a person that's seen way to much real violence, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more opposed to it than I am.

(2,307 posts)More to the point I actually wish there were 3 guns forums/groups.
One for pro-gun, a safe place for gun owners to discuss the gun issue without debate from those who don't like guns.
One for anti-gun, a safe place for non-gun owners to discuss the gun issue gun issues without debate from those who like guns.
One for gun debate, a place to go head to head. This would be an enter at your own risk forum/group, wear your thick skin.
I am a little confused as to why some subjects are restricted. I find it at times frustrating to decide exactly which forum/group to post and honestly at times use GD as a default.

(19,458 posts)And I truly believe that this topic has brought out some people here, that had hoped to stay below the radar. Been interesting.... I'm not seeing just pro-gun posts, but I'm seeing some hard core RW talking points from people who have been here a little while.

(25,699 posts)The wisdom of having an infected cyst of freepery hanging off of DU. Every time a killing like this happens, the cyst burst, and we get inundated with right-wing horseshit talking points about the need to fight the government, how CCW carriers are superheroes and above question, and how any restriction on a tool is tantamount to naziism / North Korea / whatever.
It's time to cut the shit and just snip the RKBA forum off the site.

(39,191 posts)back in the day those folks didn't last long. But now, just another opinion, I was told that, oh and to get a thicker skin too.
These folks wanting to fight the government should be alerted on to the FBI.
