of JCSS. We saw the last night of the show, and it was his last time playing Jesus. Sadly, he can no longer hit the high notes, which were inserted through a recording of them. Still, it was great to see him in the role.

But that "rock opera" is dated.

VERY dated.

Even the title.
Does anyone anymore even say about a big star, that they are a "Superstar?"

But, both are memorable. But, then again, "Carmen," "La Boheme" and most other operas are also dated, with old-fashioned music, etc. And yet, people still purchase tickets and fill theaters for all of those things.

You don't have to, though.

The song "Everything is Alright" is the perfect song for today's GOP, with Jesus and Mary Magdalene spouting the Republican Christian point of view and Judas pushing for using resources for the poor.

MARY:
Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead and
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight

APOSTLE'S WOMEN:
Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes

JUDAS:
Woman, your fine ointment, brand new and expensive
Could have been saved for the poor
Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more
People who are hungry, people who are starving
Matter more than your feet and hair

MARY:
Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you oh don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try we'll get by so forget all about us tonight

APOSTLE'S WOMEN:
Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes

JESUS:
Surely you're not saying we have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always, pathetically struggling
Look at the good things you've got!
Think! While you still have me
Move! While you still see me
You'll be lost, you'll be so sorry when I'm gone

I never really liked it, and I detested the movie.

When I think of a rock opera nowadays, first thing that comes to my mind is "Tommy."

(And the movie made based on that one sucked too.)

I guess I'm just getting old and cranky.

Le Songe D'une Nuit D'été by Ambroise Thomas is also dated. 1850, eh? Truly south of cheese for the contemporary yet discerning consumer such as yourself.

VERY dated.

Even the title.

As an atheist for an age now, the film version is one that I revisit yearly and thoroughly enjoy. Every time I see it I feel like I get something more out of it. My teenage kids have grown up with it and they're in the same boat as they're exposed to more religion in the world through friends and the news as well as soaking up a lot of history. It's a fantastic work and one that can open up a hell of a lot of discussion with people to try and get through to them with.

I've managed to avoid all the live musical things so far as none were really up my alley (I did watch the intro part for Grease just to see how they'd pull it off) but this one is definitely going to get a live watching.

And really, some wonderful songs. I saw the stage production many years later with Neely and Anderson. It was still pretty darn good in spite of the ravages of age. Theirs and mine.
