So can anything be done about this fucking tax scam if Dems get control of the House and Senate

next year? I am guessing we would need 2/3rd majority though, meaning we are fucked? So we are looking at 2021 before anything can realistically be done and the debt will have already skyrocketed by then?

1. Short of that -- mass rebellion. But

that ain't going to happen. We just have to tough it out and never forget ... and never forgive.

it will take work turning red districts blue. People will be mad as hell by then.

3. Even that's not enough because we'll still have a Republican President.

Short of 2/3 majorities, it won't be fixed until 2021 at the earliest.

5. By the time people are hurt by the bill, they won't link their suffering to it.

They'll be convinced that Democrats are the cause of their suffering, especially those uppity women and persons of color. We can hope, though, that it will suppress Republican turnout.

We just have to GOTV. We just have to outnumber them. We can't count on them seeing the error of their ways.

4. If Trump is still president, a lot can be done

He doesn't pay attention to policy, has no loyalty to Republicans and signs whatever someone puts in front of him. So if Democrats send him a "fix" he'll probably say it was his idea all along and sign it.

If Pence is president, he might actually read the bill and veto it.

Like they did with the ACA. Won't accomplish anything but it will piss them off and waste time.

10. From what I see of the bill, the real pain won't kick in for ten years.

Plus, in the fall of next year, the current tax laws will still have been in effect. Nothing will change until people start filing their tax returns for 2018 in early 2019.

Certainly if we get control of the House and Senate we can try to change this. But don't hold your breath for anything substantive to happen.

12. well, there's a lot of pain in hiking the deficit by $1.5 trillion for no good reason

and then the automatic spending cuts to try to make up for it, plus further political pressure on any more spending and political pressure for additional spending cuts,....

plus corporations will have an incentive to flush their cash out while they can take advantage of the crazy low rates, a number will leave themselves with too little and become vulnerable and will go belly-up when the recession hits....

plenty of pain even before much of it expires in 10 years.

11. realistically, it's in until we control the house, senate, and presidency.

donnie would veto anything good and we won't have 2/3rds in both houses any time soon.

but once we have those three, we can reverse the tax scam and even restore progressivity via the same reconciliation rules. no need for 60 votes.
