Bobby Kennedy: A Raging Spirit?
Anyone who owns a TV has probably seen him hawking it over the last few months.
Im thinking as a gift for my mom. 72, highly educated but doesnt read as much as she should anymore. Am I correct in assuming that because its by Chris Matthews its more casual and less wonky than other, more academic books? Is it worth reading? Is it any good?
I appreciate any input. Amazon gives me two more hours to order it and receive by Sunday!

(99,710 posts)John and Bobby Kennedy are great enough without turning them into cardboard saints but better to err on the side of adulation than criticism.

(5,811 posts)Lawrence O'Donnell's Playing with Fire first because it was about the events leading up to and during the 1968 campaign. I think it will provide great context for Matthew's book on RFK.

(22,976 posts)It's unfortunate that most on DU (or anywhere else) do not know Matthews as a writer first; he comes across much more smoothly in print. His columns for the San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner were all first-rate.
I also have an earlier book he wrote on JFK. Both books are excellent and recommended.
