(25,699 posts)There's not exactly a lack of places on the internet where you can gush over gun porn, warn everyone about "thugs" and "gun grabbers" and proclaim your right to launch a one-man war against "the feds."
So long as they remain catered to, we'll have to keep putting up with this.

(63,912 posts)with their weak, repetitive arguments. Intellectually, they are the shallowest of thinkers, which gets masked by their obvious zealotry.
Because of this basic flaw, I think the gunners will probably fade away once the news about Aurora dies down (and until the next round of slaughter of Americans). It's hard to ignore it with blood running in the streets, but when the funerals and mounds of teddy bears and flowers, weeping families interviewed on TV all go away, we'll go back to business as usual. Let me tell you, my family lived through the death of a family member due to gun violence, you have no idea of what happens after. Or maybe you do, but others on this board do not.

Why? Because something sensational happened in the news?
Or because violent crime has been on the decline in this country for decades and continues to decline?
Are you letting emotions from a tragic event rule your thoughts, or are you objectively looking at what is happening in this country to drive your decisions?
Gun control is a dead issue, and it is a harmful issue for any politician that touches it. If you want Democrats to get nailed in Congress again as Bill Clinton acknowledged they did in after the AWB, just keep pushing for it.

(5,412 posts)There are PLENTY of people who vote Democrat who are pro-second amendment. I am one of them. You can see my ballot from the last election in my sig.
I am pro-choice, pro-gay-rights, pro-environment, anti-corporations-are-people, pro-labor, and anti-war, to name a few of the traits that make me vote Democratic. I am against the plutocratic oligarchy we are becoming because of the rule of wealth in this country. I participate in the Occupy movement. I am for single-payer health care.
I also believe in ALL of the US Constitution.
I believe in collective action, but I also believe that individuals should be empowered to stand up to violence themselves if necessary, and not just by engaging in a physical contest of strength.
I believe that the intent of our founders was to decentralize power in government and in the military, with the ultimate source of armed power residing in the hands of the people. Imagine how many wars our country would have avoided in the last 65 years if the states had to all commit military forces individually to engage in them!
I find it astonishing that people who believe in the right to organize and bargain collectively get upset when 4 million people organize under the NRA to do just that. I guess collective bargaining is only OK when it's for issues you agree with.
I'm vote Democrat, and I support the second amendment. I voted for President Obama despite his 2nd amendment record and avowed campaign stance because the alternative was more war and more corporatism. Not just more, but zealously more.

What exactly do you think people should be talking about right now? Mitt Romney doesn't have a fucking prayer of winning this election. People are grieving. Is it really so hard to just scroll past the threads you don't like? Jesus. Maybe we should be talking about the desensitization of America by continuous violence in our daily lives. Mass killings are so fucking messy, let's just sweep it under the rug again.
We all know, nothing is going to happen, except for the next gun massacre.
So calm down, us zealots are just letting off a bit of steam. I live in Denver,

(17,064 posts)As far as rhetoric, the pro-NRA acts much more civilly than the anti-gun zealots.

(26,624 posts)By referring to the First, Second, and Fourth Amendments, its clear that SCOTUS used "pre-existing right" in the same sense that PA and VT used natural, inherent, inalienable/unalienable rights.
A DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OR STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA - 28 Sept. 1776 "That all men are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent and inalienable rights, amongst which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety."
[link:http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/vt01.asp|
A DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE STATE OF VERMONT- July 8, 1777]
I. THAT all men are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent and unalienable rights, amongst which are the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety.
NOTE PA and VT statements differ only in the use of inalienable versus unalienable, a difference that occurred when the Declaration of Independence was written with Jefferson using inalienable and Adams using unalienable. Apparently Adams had the final say and the DOI used unalienable.

So, when the gun control topic is moved back to that forum I will continue to discuss the issues there....when I have something to say or when I want to learn something from those who own guns and firearms.

(18,672 posts)I'm learning lots of new things from gun enthusiasts. Apparently an AK-15 is not really considered an assault rifle - that's just a silly meme. Except for the minor additions of two grips that help the shooter move the gun from side to side while spraying bullets at multiple targets, and a magazine that holds a ton of ammo, it's really just a harmless deer rifle...

(634 posts)That all gun owning Dems should join the republican party?
That gun-owning Dems should instantly change their views because someone calls them a nut on the internet?
That all NRA members better show up at election time and vote republican because the DU bloggers are coming for their guns?
It is nice to wrap yourself in a cloak of self-righteousness , the same way the repubs wrap themselves up in the Flag when they spend our money on wars and killing?
...
Isn't the real truth that the killer is the nut?
People get killed because over weed, crack and heroin; why don't we outlaw those things....
