MSNBC is insane to let this intelligent woman go while keeping nasal mouth Hugh Hewitt.

(32,047 posts)Is a niche TV network targeting a demographic that's not fond of TV to begin with a reasonable investment?
Think about why Air America Radio didn't last.

(3,823 posts)Because it was horribly mismanaged.
There was a tremendous amount of talent doing wonderful and sorely needed work.
Plus it was mostly on very low powered stations.

(7,526 posts)She was overrated and the Nation has really gone to the dark side with its support of the deniers of Russian attacks on our democracy.
MSNBC has Maddow, O'Donell, Reid, Hayes, etc. and continues to do a better job of any MSM outlet in informing about key issues, even with a Hewitt on sporadically and his who cares weekend show.

(7,526 posts)For example, commentaries published in the Nation where she took the magazine to task.
And what was the point of your question, and the need to capitalize only?
Pauldg47
(640 posts)..I listen to them all the time. She never stated anthing anti liberal. I don't have any info that says differently.
Bradshaw3
(7,526 posts)Nor will you explain what you meant by the "only" question. I understand.

(7,526 posts)You said she was against the Nation's Russia apologia and I asked you to back it up. You can't. You questioned my reason for having doubts about her and I asked why you would ask that. You have not bothered to respond to that twice now, just to ask me to defend my position, which is nothing more than deflection.
If you can give concrete examples of her taking the Nation to task for its scurrilous articles (something I have never seen her do when the subject of Russian interference comes up, or seen anything in print) then you have a point. But you can't because she hasn't and that is why she and the Nation have lost all credibility. After two responses you haven't yet, nor answered the question I've asked twice now, so no point in continuing this.

(16,104 posts)I bet it didn't endear her to MSNBC, definitely contrary to the temperament of "The Nation."

(15,805 posts)MSNBCs audience wants facts, truth and intelligent discussions, and that means someone has invested years building up a credible resume that supports their informed views with well researched information.
Another version of Fox-lite staffed with attractive airheads and well coiffed gadflies won't increase viewership.

(15,289 posts)so she's going on 45, not exactly young these days.
Ali Velshi is probably going to be the air time loser here. He's on twice a day now. My bet is one of his daily slots will go to her.
I can't believe anyone watches Hewitt at 8 AM Sat morning. MSNBC would get better numbers with 1/2 an hour of "Lockup".

(11,574 posts)I'm afraid we're seeing a right wing trend to control the media, with the end of net neutrality, the changing of the FCC rules just for Sinclair Media, and liberal voices being silenced, one by one. Make no mistake, the fascists are here.

(1,018 posts)I have no inclination to support her. All I did was disagree with her about Al Franken resigning (she was for). I have no use for people like that. My life won't be worse off without her.
spooky3
(34,465 posts)She began by being very firmly in favor of his resigning, didnt seem to consider any of the complexities, etc., then more recently claimed to be more ambivalent. Maybe she got some push back.

No doubt. I would be watching another hour Sat AM would it be Joan instead of Hugh Hewitt.

(6,254 posts)During the Bush years MSNBC was a safe harbor for Dems and anyone who respected the rule of law and the Constitution. Recall the days when anyone who voiced dissent against the Iraqi War was considered to be against the troops and unpatriotic? For the most part, the msm dropped the ball regarding the war and the lies that brought us the war. However, MSNBC led the anti-war effort especially Keith Olbermann. Olbermanns special commentaries were sweet music to the Democratic viewer, rare moments of clarity in an otherwise contaminated media. (I wasnt aware of DU until last year or so). Cant the left have at least one media outlet that doesnt feel compelled to give a voice to the likes of Trump and the righ wing apologists? Joan Walsh deserves, in fact has earned a right to be heard on MSNBC. Get rid of NOONAN!! Keep Walsh!!! If it werent for Maddow and ODonnell I wouldnt watch MSNBC

(129,304 posts)I liked Joan. Haven't watched much in the past year but in previous years I was always agreeing with just about everything she said or wrote.
M$NBC keeps rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic to compete with a juggernaut that is literally offered in every venue (including restaurants, bars, gyms, hotels, airports, doctor's offices, etc), where rarely can you find M$NBC as part of hotel or restaurant cable or satellite offerings, so naturally there will be less viewers overall.
I.e., going "conservative" to increase ratings is bullshit while ignoring that the network does not have the same amount of penetration as Faux.

(37,648 posts)So I guess MSNBC had quit using her much, but gave her a few tryouts to decide whether to keep her. I also noticed she'd had a bit of cosmetic work. Either that was for herself, or it's possible she feels pressured to look younger to keep her job in tv. She looked good, though.
So glad she got another job right away. She's a very smart cookie.
Fla Dem
(23,723 posts)But heaven forbid an experienced. knowledgeable, articulate female should begin to look her age. Even Andrea Mitchell has obviously had a face lift or 2 to keep her "younger look".
Happy Joan will be on CNN. Guess I'll have to start watching them more. Just can't stand Wolf Blitzer.
