A telecommunications giant that touted bonuses connected with a tax overhaul law is also laying off hundreds of workers, according to news reports.
Dallas-based AT&T is laying off hundreds of workers, according to news reports. Citing anonymous sources, the Chicago Tribune said about 600 workers from retail sales clerks to satellite technicians were notified of the layoffs last week.
Marty Richter of AT&T said the company is adding employees where there's high customer demand and adjusting its workforce under services in decline. The company refused to identify numbers and locations.
"Many of the affected employees have a job offer guarantee that ensures they'll be offered another job with the company," Richter said in a statement.

(4,066 posts)Yes, offered jobs at locations they probably can't get to because they can't afford transportation. Or, they have to move and can't afford that either.
Thus, allowing them to be replaced by entry-level people who make less.

How many billions will corporate media save? They should report on themselves.

(4,341 posts)Hello Santa,
Only one thing I want for Christmas, I know it involves a lot of people, but all I want is trump, and the rest of the crooks from the GOP out of office and in jail.
P.S. I can wait until January, but please, no longer than that.

(14,816 posts)Not everyone will get $1000, that's an average. Some will get millions, sone a few hundred. Many will get nothing.
It has little to do with the tax cut. Look, taxes only apply to profits. Bonuses are expenses which are fully deductible. No dollar spent on a bonus is taxed. So the tax cut isn't paying for bonuses anyway.
