The liberal Christians I know (my wife being one of them) don't have a problem voting for Democrats. The divides the article says that have been created in the Christian faith along the lines of sexuality and sexual issues are not an issue for them. My wife's denomination allows openly gay and female clergy.

All of society benefits when we keep religion and politics separate.

My wife and I have refrained from going to our local places of worship because all of them are right wing leaning. I just cannot support that thinking. The Jesus that I study in the Bible is quite different than the one they try to portray.

This was an excellent essay. Too many so-called "Christians" are anything but.
