Seriously? Trump really thinks he is an emperor who can proclaim "make it so"

(1,896 posts)Folks in Great Britain are scared of pissing off Trump over a wedding? Man, if that's how complex international relations need to be conducted we are truly screwed. "it was really in our nation's best interest to support you on this issue but since I didn't get invited to the wedding....".

(3,515 posts)The Sun is a tabloid newspaper published in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Since The Sun on Sunday was launched in February 2012, the paper has been a seven-day operation. As a broadsheet, it was founded in 1964 as a successor to the Daily Herald; it became a tabloid in 1969 after it was purchased by its current owners.[6] It is published by the News Group Newspapers division of News UK, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.[7][8]

(17,188 posts)Personally, though, I wouldn't want that boorish orange asshole anywhere NEAR my wedding, grabbing the guests in their nether regions and hogging all the KFC and beautiful chocolate wedding cake.
But invite who you and Meghan want. It's your wedding, and P.M. May can't fire you from the royal family.

Harry and fiancée Meghan Markle have told aides they want the former US president and wife Michelle at their big day on May 19.
Snub trump and invite the Obamas.

(26,281 posts)The wedding will be at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. I've been there - it's a much smaller venue than St. Paul's or Westminster Abbey. It's where Prince Charles and Camilla were married. I don't think the Bushes were invited to that ceremony.
I think the government officials are more worried that this will trigger trump* to do something unprecedented and unpresidential. Ok, that's pretty much his every day routine, but not on a global level.

(26,281 posts)There is a wonderful warmness between the Royals and the Obamas, the likes of which I've never seen, before. I believe there is a genuine fondness that is shared between them.

(58,785 posts)How many here have the resources to ride out even a little war? And by resources, I very much mean food, water and adequate shelter for all, and for some vital medications and medical services.
We've never been here before: 330 million people depending on a just-in-time delivery chain for life itself.
And power. Most municipal backup systems are pre-Reagan era, poorly maintained post-Reagan, and have an appalling tendency to break down when needed. The ACA mandates hospitals be able to provide 4 days of power, a great improvement over what was. For 4 days.
For whom it may concern, it's winter. And for the rest, after comes summer.

(12,448 posts)The government, maybe, but as others have said, it's their wedding. The Queen likely has more say than Theresa May in a family wedding. I don't know her of course, but I doubt if she gives a shit about what Trump thinks.
