With the Christmas special out there and the brouhaha getting underway from the usual quarters about changing the Doctor from a male container to a female container, the BBC has brought out the last five minutes of the episode for those that just want to see the transformation sequence and first minute or so of Jodi Whitaker taking on the role that Peter Capaldi has held for the last few years.
The actual transformation begins at three minutes in but the Capaldi stuff is solidly fun leading up to it.

I like the change.
Would like to see an episode where a couple of the Doctor's old companions meet the new one.

(1,306 posts)With the first female Doctor is a women can't drive joke.
That's exactly the insulting portrayal I was afraid of, which is why I was against a female Doctor. So, one strike so far.

(11,936 posts)Capaldi's first words after he got done being excited about his new kidneys was to look at Clara and say "Do you know how to fly this thing?".

(25,921 posts)The ongoing meme (especially with Capaldi's Doctor) is that you don't fly the TARDIS--you negotiate with her.

(26,599 posts)The regeneration energy literally blew up the TARDIS.
11th Doctor crashed the TARDIS right after regeneration, and 12th completely forgot how to fly it, and got it swallowed by a dinosaur.
I think you're grasping here.

(12,157 posts)A recent on maybe the most recent was just so wrong for me. I watched 3 episode and gave up on the doctor- Who? I couldn't wait for him to go.
edited to add - a new companion as well?

(7,813 posts)He was the most right for River, for example. It's just that Malcolm Tucker (The Thick of It) was just too memorable a character to not think of when watching him as The Doctor.
Here's a fun fact that I found out when I looked Capaldi up on imdb: in the movie World War Z, Capaldi played the W.H.O Doctor. That just seems like a very nice touch.

(5,300 posts)Moffatt was an excellent writer when under someone else's control, but the story arcs under his control were execrable.
I hated the way Moffatt had Fonzied Clara into the lead character.
And they had only-recently managed to convince the sound and music department that they should not interfere with the dialog.

(26,599 posts)I'm really excited about Jodie though. Can't wait to see her in her first proper episode.
About time they got a woman in the role.

(21,506 posts)I started watching the doctor in the early 80s. Got my kid watching the new series two years ago. My wife made fun of me watching it but after sitting through a few episodes she started to get it.
Now she is a bigger fan than me!
Looking forward to the new doctor. Capaldi never really clicked for me. I loved David Tennant and Matt Smith and the girls who waited was really just a great chapter for me.
Looking forward to a new doctor and of course a new TARDIS!

(10,014 posts)David Tennant has always been my favorite followed by Matt Smith, but Capaldi seemed to grow in the role and some of his stories were brilliant. My only complaint was that he wasn't Scottish enough.
I'm looking forward to the new doctor but I hope there are fewer Dalek and Cyberman stories, they've been done to death.
