"Russian meddling in the 2016 election was apparently just the prequel.
Now Americas former Cold War rival is using social media to undermine special counsel Robert Muellers probe, a former CIA official and a former Republican congressman said Monday night.
Michael Morell, who ran the CIA, and Michael Rogers, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wrote in an op-ed in The Washington Post that Russia is still busy using its social media tools to create doubt across the U.S. about Muellers integrity.
There is a perception among the media and general public that Russia ended its social media operations following last years election and that we need worry only about future elections, the pair wrote. But that perception is wrong. Russias information operations in the United States continued after the election, and they continue to this day.
During one week in early December, for example, roughly 20 percent of the activity from accounts tied to Russian intelligence for propaganda was focused on undermining faith in Muellers investigation into potential collusion between Russia and the successful campaign of Donald Trump, according to research by The Alliance for Securing Democracy."

It was always the repubs accusing the democrats of being "soft on russia".
Now they are actively working with russia to undermine the west.

(9,090 posts)trump guy sam nunbers told gabriel sherman for the 4/3/2016 piece on the trump campaign in new york magazine that he "listened to 1000s of hours of talk radio" to prep for their campaign.
who told them to do that and was it a way to coordinate with the russians, especially if they found a way to feed limbaugh and other talk radio gods.

(12,394 posts)Im of Latvian heritage. When I last visited, several years ago, my relatives warned me of Putin. His fingers were in everything. When the Latvians wanted to lay flowers at the base of their Statue in Riga (much like our Statue of Liberty) in remembrance of a special anniversary, suddenly scaffolds were erected overnight by Russia workers... to complete necessary work on the structure.
In those days it was nuisance and bullshit, but the Latvians knew who was behind it and that it would get worse. If I thought for a moment that it was paranoia, I soon learned better. Cemetery stones of war heroes were being desecrated at night, with chunks of stone chipped out of the names with bullets.
In my fifties at that time, a life long citizen of America, I was still naive, despite being the first off the boat from parents who had escaped Stalins reign and treachery.
We here forget. They have never forgotten, because it has never ended.
He is coming for the Baltics, and if you dont believe it, you may as well believe the BS of trump and the KGOP in the New Year.

(51,129 posts)THREAD regarding: FBI used the Steele dossier to get FISAs
Link to tweet
3. (It's worth noting in that previous article that Steele apparently believed that there was a cabal in the FBI *preventing* the dossier from reaching the top, and it also suggests that he contacted @DavidCornDC about its contents. But I'll let reporters sort out those details.)
Link to tweet
6. The DOJ lawyers who help prepare the FISA applications take this VERY seriously. Like, even if you had a common-knowledge assertion, like "Country X is a state-sponsor of terrorism," they make you include a cite (preferably two) supporting it. They want every fact airtight.
7. The Steele dossier is "raw intelligence." It contains reporting from third party sources -- meaning it is basically hearsay. So the FBI can't just staple the dossier to a cover sheet that says "GIVE ME A FISA" and be done with it.
8. To use any or all of the dossier, the FBI would have to provide independent verification and corroboration of each fact that would be included in the application. This could mean first-hand witness statements, actual recordings from electronic surveillance, etc.
9. In other words, if the FBI *did* use the contents of the dossier to obtain a FISA, then by definition those contents are true, corroborated, and independently verifiable. Remember that the application is presented to an Article III judge -- a judicial check -- before granted.
10. This does not seem like the road Trump supporters want to be going down...and yet they are. It's so bizarre. And to underscore: To claim that this was a huge conspiracy is ALSO directly implicating members of the judiciary (who could be Republican appointees) without basis.
P.S. In tweet #2 *he* refers to Steele -- I was cutting down this sentence to fit and omitted him as the original referent

(17,937 posts)spreading disinformation against the Dems was relatively easy. However, most people, including right wing nut jobs, revere the FBI. Right wingers love law enforcement no matter what they do, and the FBI are the epitome of law enforcement in the US. The only minds I see them swaying are the 20 to 25% of shit gibbon, true believers. Beyond that, it's a tough row to hoe.

(11,885 posts)And all his russian KGOP with why are they still allowing them to continue cyber attacking us right now? Stick to this one question over and over again on all the shows, the hosts should attack back at them why after a year they're allowing this to happen if they're not involved with Putin, and why they haven't stopped them, and push back why they're helping russians attack Mueller, or if they are colluding with Putin and trump too. All questions to trump should become this way to, if your not colluding with putin why haven't you gotten their cyber attacking to stop, and why are you allowing them to continue to do this for you?

(6,139 posts)its all on Americans now, namely GOP AND the people who did not and continue to not vote or irresponsibly trashing their votes. We still have freedom of press but millions are willing to deny themselves such right and listen only to faux news. We live in a country with the worlds brightest and the worlds dumbest minds.
This is how cold war works, US and Russia both try to undermine each other by any means possible. Putin would have never ever succeeded without active help from within US government, aka present day GOP and its massive propaganda arms.
Putin is an evil genius fighting against democracy across the globe by using the most western tools of all - freedom of press. Make no mistake he has zero interest in being an ally to the US with trump. The end goal is bring down US democracy, making it a failed state with autoritarian regime. This will neccesiate second great depression and collosal devaluation of US dollar as valuable currency. How? Butcoin may be just the beginning.
