(63,221 posts)I grew up there, north of Utica in the Adirondack foothills. It was always freezing! Sometimes in the double digits below zero. Often in the winter our pipes would freeze and we couldn't get running water.

(14,947 posts)Our downstairs bathroom pipes always froze in the winter when we had a house. Apartment we are in now seems good so far. Space heater in the bathroom helps too. But if the temps stay sub zero for long I expect we will have issues. I already cant wait for spring and it isnt even January.

(40,416 posts)Down to 150 gallons of heating oil. Ordered 300 more yesterday. No way I'm going to get through the winter without it. Yikes! $800!!! Hopefully my driveway will be plowed when the truck comes. (They're busy these days and the usual driver retired, so there's a new one on the route way out here in the sticks.)
The roads are all snow covered, but plowed. Most of them here are unpaved. Thankfully I live on a school bus route, so my very rural county takes pains to clear the path for the few kiddies who live in the area.
Going to hunker down for a few days.
Keep bundled up, kiddies!

(65,168 posts)My dog goes to pee, and then eats and has to go out again to poop. The 2nd trip was extremely efficient. He clearly remembered the trip 10 minutes before.
I'm getting that "visual" in my mind....
I have two dogs. I know exactly what you mean. It was -12 here yesterday, but felt way, way colder with the wind chill.
ProfessorGAC
(65,168 posts)It was -1 yesterday, but had a about a 15 mph north wind. Today the wind is west northwest but only a few mph. So, it actually felt colder even though it was 5 degrees warmer at the same time yesterday.

(10,779 posts)... which is fairly unusual. Our winters are long (like end of October to end of April), but not nearly as severe as many people think for Colorado. We've been enjoying an unusually warm winter with temperatures frequently in the 60s and hardly any snow, and tomorrow it will be back in the 50s.
