What would you do?
Would you think it was only a partisan attack from the Republicans and the FBI?
Would you stick with your Party and defend your President from the charges?
Would you only watch TV channels that defended and excused your President?
Would you blame it on the "deep state" in the intelligence agencies?
Would you want all the facts put on the table or would you believe that your President was correct in defending himself from the attacks in whatever way he wanted?
It would probably be a much more difficult decision if the shoe was on the other foot?
Could you say, "Yes, he's an asshole and he lies a lot. He plays more golf than Barack Obama. He is probably tied up with some criminal elements, being from NYC and all. It is a little strange that he has so many Russian connections. He is not an honest person..."
Would you separate yourself from your President but still try to save your Party for the future? Would you be able to say what your Party really stands for and how different it is from what Donald Trump stands for?
I have tried to put myself in others' shoes and I could never see myself following Donald Trump down this trail he is going. I understand that it is not an easy decision.

(6,856 posts)We here would demand immediate impeachment since no woman is above the law.
Anyone else? Go to the mattresses.

(3,434 posts)The longer he is in office the more damage he is dong to the country and the party. The Republicans have already gone past the point of no return. They are going to lose badly in 2018 and 2020.

(22,048 posts)Needless to say, I get your point. However, the Democratic Party would never find itself in the position Trump & Co. have created for themselves. ETA: As an example, look how Senator Franken's situation was handled.
Regardless, in your scenario, I would want the criminals thrown out and prosecuted. As an example, I was never very impressed by President Clinton's handling of the sexual allegations against him and his perjury-- which should never have resulted in his impeachment-- is the largest stain on his tenure.

(111,110 posts)And Republicans might ask: "How did they accumulate $150 million dollars in wealth by writing books and giving speeches? Their books were not that popular."
"And why did he get on that bus with Loretta Lynch?"
They have their partisan beliefs also.

(22,048 posts)You're correct about both sides having partisan beliefs.
Regarding the infamous meeting on the tarmac between AG Lynch and President Clinton, I had a theory at the time. By taking the meeting in the midst of his wife's campaign, he forced Ms. Lynch to recuse herself from the email investigation. Accordingly, it fell on FBI Director Comey, a well-known Republican, to make the public exoneration of Mrs. Clinton. If Mr. Clinton planned this rather Machiavellian move, it would mean that Mrs. Clinton's exoneration would not be challenged by Republicans as a partisan decision.
Of course, history played out very differently.
I hope you have a happy New Year!
