Donald Trump is the first president to lose Most Admired Man his first year in office in the history of polling. He lost to President Barack Obama.

Donald Trumps streak of receiving less support than his Democratic rivals continues in the latest edition of Gallups survey of the most admired man and woman in the United States.
But even worse for Trump, he has broken a record he is the first first-year president not to be named most admired.
Trump comes in second after President Barack Obama, who he also came behind in 2015 and 2016. Obama has had a lock on most admired man since 2008. Hillary Clinton, who defeated Trump by nearly 3 million votes in the popular vote last year, has been named the most admired woman for the 16th consecutive year.
Michelle Obama is the second most admired woman in the survey, as she has been for several years.
More humiliating for Trump is that he has broken the trend in the polls 71-year history where a president in his first year has also been named the most admired man.
Previous first year presidents who won since 1946, the polls first year: Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson (won after his only presidential election win, though he was already president), Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
The break with history continues to underline Trumps historic unpopularity. Unlike other White House residents, Trump received almost no bump in support after being sworn in, has never received over 50 percent support, and has lost support consistently throughout his first year.................................

(24,324 posts)Why does the phrase,
"Trump is only first-year president to ever lose Most Admired Man poll," appear 6 times?
I notice this in many/most posts from twitter especially. I understand part of the reason... some people can not open the tweet links so the poster types it out, there is a headline, etc....... but.. all the others..
Not aimed at you, riversedge, but just am using your post as a good example so I figure you would know...

(67,112 posts)will Americans wake up, when they hear tanks rolling in the night looking for those not praising Trump. It's happened in other countries throughout history, why is America different ... as he works to dismantle our institutions, stack courts with RW'ers, and possibly the same for SCOTUS.
he sees himself as the next Hitler. There, I said it. But all the evidence points that way. Good thing he's a moron and loser.
But he can still do a lot of damage, especially because the kook brothers are basically running the Federal government, behind the scenes. dump gets to do his authoritarian thing and they get to do their loot and pillage thing, which he's on board with.
RKP5637
(67,112 posts)than to loot it. It's pathetic so many Americans are too stupid and/or uncaring to get what is going on. They remind me of the "good Germans" that sat around as Hitler ascended to full power, as they said it was just a fad. Imagine what is going on behind the scenes.

(9,474 posts)was a Sr. in high school when JFK was assassinated. Things were tough then, but no one thought the country was being destroyed from within. This is much, much worse. I suspect the Russians are blackmailing Trump and some very prominent movers and shakers in the GOP, and, yes, it is a cult, and a very dangerous one, at that.
RKP5637
(67,112 posts)GOP, and many are crackpots and exceptionally stupid. And Trump is the worst president I've ever experienced. Nixon would be far far better. Today, I feel the GOP is trying to install a dictatorial regime as they destroy the country.

Someone should tweet it to him.

(67,112 posts)and it seems many Americans just don't give a fuck. The 2018 election will be very revealing. If the GOP does well in 2018, than I say it's far too late and American is gone.

But you are right 2018 election is critical, he is already buying votes with the tax cut and he will only get more desperate unless Mueller puts the kibosh on the whole disgusting travesty.
RKP5637
(67,112 posts)stood for. He is one disgusting POS. What is a real tragedy, is our election system allowed him to slither into office despite the popular vote. WTF kind of system is that. You vote, and then some assholes override your vote. It makes a mockery of the US election system IMO.

(67,112 posts)frustration in much of the US. I've been saying for a long time there was a hostility building that could only be pushed under the rug for some time. I voted for HRC and supported her all the way, but in the primary I supported Bernie, mostly because he sounded like the tough democrats I grew up with of which my father was one as a consistently winning candidate.
I have no data, but I think some of the Trump voters might have supported Bernie in the GE. I just want a democrat to win in 2020. I am stunned, I never in my wildest imagination thought an ass like Trump could win the presidency.

(5,801 posts)but then completely disrespect the office and our standing in the world. I thought it would be bad, but even a cynic like me didn't think dump would behave in such a greedy, exploitative, grasping, dishonest manner. I thought he would at least be constrained somewhat by the gravity of the position and would want to serve as a positive representative of the nation while on the world stage. Trashing the country's standing abroad apparently was in the instructions he got from vlad.
Also, the GOPee congress has completely abdicated their constitutional role of serving as a check and balance on the executive branch. History will judge them harshly. What a bunch of tools. None of them should ever be elected again, to anything.
Of course, if 1/4-1/3 of the country weren't a bunch of faux-addled idiots, none of this would stand.
