(NE) Planned Parenthood unveils 'My Body, My Choice' license plate

By Emily Nitcher / World-Herald staff writer Dec 29, 2017 Updated 8 hrs ago

LINCOLN — Nebraskans can now have a “My Body, My Choice” license plate on their cars.

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland unveiled the new blue and pink license plate on Thursday and announced that it was available to the public.

This week the organization submitted enough applications to surpass the state’s requirement for an organization to request a specialty license plate; the state requires 250 applications, and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland said it submitted 263 applications.

The plates are listed on the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles’ website now, but DMV Director Rhonda Lahm said it will take a couple of weeks to print the plates. The plate will cost an extra $70.

Why do I get the feeling that Nebraska will suddenly pass legislation that forbids any kind of private organization plates? Similar to schools that suddenly disbanded all student organizations when gay-straight alliance groups signed up for school space and resources.

Choose Life is only $5, but the proceeds go to TANF -- not any sort of abortion organization. That puts those plates on a cost par with Mountain Lion Conservation (which I have), and Breast Cancer Awareness.

The PP plates are on a cost par with specialty plates for the Huskers and Creighton, or for the UP Railroad.

In Florida, our plate need to be on the back plate stand, the front is free. But Nebraska likely don't issue plates to out of staters.
