What else can you call them??
They have had a year to fix this mess and they have done nothing. It's obvious they have no plan to do anything. You are on your own, America.
We have a sick, delusional, dangerous Russian stooge in the White House and the Republicans have gathered in his cuckoo's nest.
They have betrayed everything our democracy has stood for and they are deaf to the reality around them.
Our hope is that we can survive without disastrous results until the next election. Then, perhaps, there will be enough oversight to keep our country on track?

(2,275 posts)I realize you are being funny, and maybe nostalgic, when you say "socialist." (And I feel you, because some definitions of socialist aren't the totalitarian kind which that word, unfortunately, evokes). But maybe instead of the duality "socialism vs capitalism" we start pitching "infrastructure enabling free enterprise." It's more realistic me thinks. Then we can start conceptualizing what kinds of infrastructure and what kinds of regulation we need to create an economy for all.
Open to suggestions....

(23,147 posts)The thing that concerns me the most is rampant voter fraud from Russia, sanctioned by the asshole at the top to disrupt America, and rampant voter suppression. It would be easy to disallow most college folks from voting if they live outside their permanent residence and disallow the poor by requiring passports and closing all polls in lower income Democratic areas, eliminating early voting, and disallowing people to vote who aren't inside the polling place by closing time. With Russia spending billions on deceitful ads, hacking voter rolls and removing dems, and pro-drumpf bots and all of the above, does true American democracy stand a chance of surviving?
Our only hope is Mueller will have proof positive of their treachery and criminal actions and enough people will care and vote against the traitors or just not vote for them and we retake the House and Senate. Then we can do something about Russia and Repugs conspiring to steal our country, drag the whole traitorous operation into the open.

(2,548 posts)that represent the ideals of the democratic elements of this republic. Roy Moore is the penultimate sysmbol of their wants, needs and desires. His promotion of ending all constitutional amendments after the first ten should tell you all you need to know about their plan.
Paul Ayn Rand Ryan has had this in his sights since he was a playground bully. He was raised on state welfare and social security and he married into a family fortune. He has never worked a real day in his life and never will. He resents this more than anything and rebels by trying to deny the benefits of Americanism to anyone he can.
The orange horror in the White House also was given his fortune. Has never earned a dollar when he could cheat someone else out of theirs. Who goes broke owning a casino?
Every bit of the New Deal and post World War Two ideology is under attack by these two and their zombie hoards of ignorant acolytes. This is only the beginning, they know their time is limited. They will not survive the mid term elections, so watch what they will attempt in the next few months. They have back loaded the tax bill and it will collapse the middle class when its full implications come to fruition. They need to end as much government assistance policies as they can before this happens so that we skid into another depression.
Their intent is to keep people at each others throats while starving them of food, medical care and the ideal of a safe society for them and their children.

(32,726 posts)... but it's not the stated goal of the Republican Party. They're not all crazy.
I grew up in the Midwest in a proudly Republican family. I guess I was the first one to go blue, because I came of age when Nixon was running for his 2nd term. I've never voted for a Republican in all my years (I'm 66 now) but I remained independent for a long time. I thought maybe some day the GOP will have somebody I might want to vote for. But nope, it will never happen I'm sure of that now. In 2008 I joined the Democratic Party because I wanted to vote for Hillary in the primary.
Here's my point - the Republican Party used to stand for something. Eisenhower was their last good president. The people who are making the attacks as you describe in your post (and yes they are happening) are using the less-informed people to accomplish their evil for them. This is what is so wrong, those people have been duped and used. We have to find a way to overcome 40 years of brainwashing by Rush Limbaugh and the hate-radio factory, in order to convince these people.

(988 posts)The only way this will change is voting them out. They have taken to Deplorable because their base of deplorables saw past all the nastiness and still voted for the man. The GOP has moved Deplorable pure and simple.
The only thing we can do is take the house and the senate and force some changes that prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
The conservative GOP are not caring about the Russian influence. They may talk like they care but there have been very limited to no action to prevent this from happening again and it is happening. the GOP have done nothing.

(1,107 posts)18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason . Requires we be at war. We are not at war with Russian. No arms were taking up against the US. Its a very narrow definition.
Trumps administration activities more closely Mirror either a seditious conspiracy under 18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy or 18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection.
Id have to look at case law but Id guess insurrection would be he easier charge to make as seditious conspiracy also has a force element.

(37,648 posts)If they have the W H administration, the President, and a number of politicians in Congress...and some state and local people, as well....they have taken over.
My 9th grade civics teacher explained this sort of situation to our class. She said if an enemy takes over our country, it won't be soldiers marching in, doing battle in the streets. She said it would be by infiltration in the government. I think that MAY have been what has happened, and our govt isn't set up to deal with such a thing.
Our govt is set up for one branch to "check" the other. But if two branches have been taken over..our fail safe system can't work.

(562 posts)Because repetition of the truth is frankly a weapon. It has power, and the more facts undercovered, the more powerful it gets.
There's a reason Trump became enraged when Clinton called him a Russian puppet. Because he is. I wished she repeated it 10 times. The audience would have taken heed.
And Trump supporters, Fox, Hannity, etc are lying traitors, and I'll add, corrupt fascists, for supporting a man who has those qualities, w/ loyalty is to Russia, who demonizes freedom of the press, speech, the FBI, Dept of Justice, etc.

(1,587 posts)GOP of what is at risk, why it is very real, who supports it and who are afraid, for whatever reasons, to defend the constitution as part of their sworn duty. The fifth columnists, as Malcolm Nance so aptly named them, have to be nationally shamed. There exists enough evidence right now to do that. The GOP can no longer legitimately claim the mantle of law, order and patriotism and are traitors to the country they swore to defend. That has got to be the overwhelming message before their ancillary corruption is tackled. It has to be a very complex message refined to simplicity, a not easy thing to do.

Just pleasing the corporate masters, that's the only bottom line. In the current environment, they know they can blatantly lie and cheat and do whatever they please - they have the blessings of the corporate owned "media" to ignore and allow all to proceed. (With a smattering of outrage allowed here and there on the airwaves.)
All that poor schmucks like us (at least myself, friends, family, coworkers, neighbors) can do is hunker down, scrape and scrabble out an existence and get by. Just help one another, stop attacking each other (corporate overlords benefit when the peasants are infighting, please me mindful)
Anyhoot, just wanted to say fuck those traitors, and I wish all my fellow peasants a warm and safe evening.
