The target audience for these dueling fake quotes is completely incapable of seeing that they are fake.

Even when the evidence is placed directly in front of them.

I had a go around with a 2nd amendment nut yesterday who provided a link that “proved” Thomas Jefferson believed that universal gun ownership was primarily to defend against the government.

It was a fake quote. The link he provided SAID SPECIFICALLY THAT IT WAS A FAKE QUOTE. I pointed this out. He couldn’t wrap his head around the concept. That is what we are dealing with.

That "defend against the government" thing used to be a primary gun enthusiast talking point. It used to be. But now that we have the most dangerous federal regime in this country's history in place, you don't hear it from the gun militants anymore. Just a little irony with which to start the new year.....

and where they are.

How can you know they are fake as opposed to just being deleted? Can someone educate me so I will know?

Read the fake tweet and apply critical thinking skills.

Or is it suspect when it is a retweet of a screenshot, and therefore easy to alter?

Here, you can't get past the screenshot, so go to Chelsea Clinton's twitter feed and see if it is there.

(Good practice for pretty much every thing you read. Read the quote, in the contex of the article. Check to make sure the article comes from the source it is purported to come from, and if it is discussing something you can easily track back to the original source (like a court case, or a contract, for example)- do so)

You're right. Demmiblue doesn't know how to tell, but felt some need to be hostile. Plus, I can dismiss a tweet, but I'm not going to stake my reputation on saying it's fake based on an opinion, so I wondered if there was a trick to spotting a fake.

Tweets can be deleted. So, if you only evidence is not finding it in a feed, then you don't understand how twitter works.

Olive Oyl, Beavis and Butthead. He HAS to know how ignorant tRump is, if he ever met the assh**e. Chelsea has much more education than any tRump. Her parents did not have to BUY her degrees, she is smart enough to earn them.
