will do it. Microsoft Word does a good job, but others do OK as well.

it will probably automatically flag misspellings. If not, you can run the spell checker separately. I don't use Open Office, so I can't be certain. Word would automatically check the spelling after you pasted it and mark all questionable words, but it also lets you run a separate spell check.

Now to see if it can learn so it doesn't flag a lot of names like Manitowoc.

any time you check a word. That should be an option in the dialog box that pops up. Or, it may offer an "ignore" option, which should get rid of recurring examples of the same word.

pulled a guy over on I-43 and asked for his license. Then he asked the guy where he was going. The driver said, "Home, to Cleveland." The deputy said, "Then why do you have an Ohio drivers license?"

Not actually post them, but paste them into a dummy message and run the spell checker?

It's not foolproof, to be sure, but it would catch a fair number of errors.

announcements, and small articles to spell check.
I proof-read as I go, but I also miss stuff and thought maybe I could find them.

That's where I thought a spell check would be helpful, but I just put a page of them into open office and it flags every surname and place name that maybe I'll be better off spot-checking the one above and below as I put in new ones.

from spellcheck, if that would help. You can access Options via the spellcheck message box, on the bottom-left:

At a rate of one per minute, 74,000 articles wouldn't even take you 7 1/2 weeks, for cripes sake! Get to work!

On a more serious note... 74,000? Yikes! Good luck!
