It so cold on the farm the chickens are hanging out in front the heaters.

I fed them extra and they did not want to go out today.

The cattle are hanging around the pole barns to keep away from the wind. We gave them extra hay.

The wood burning stove is feeling good.

It feels like like the high 20's outside and we will a hard freeze.

This is better then 100 plus we had in the summer.

Now for some blackeye peas and pork chops.

Happy New Year everyone.

It is long underwear weather.

at lowes last week for 129 and its keeping my bedroom a nice even temp plus it does not stink now that the new smell has burned off it unlike a kerosene one which put out some nasty fumes.
Another benefit is that I lose power it will stay warm still for a few hours and a regular electric one would not.

Just needed a match.

Those old gas heaters kept a house warm.

My farm house has them.

I think people used to live in colder houses.

Old houses had very little to no insulation.

Breathing is an adventure in pain. Your face feels like every pore has a needle in it. Your hair hurts. You can feel your eyeballs freezing. You have to be constantly on the move or you'll start freezing up. If you have arthritis or bursitis you're in agony.

Smartest cat that has ever owned me.

Not as bad as 3 or 4 years ago here in MI, but still bloody effin cold.

I think the lowest I saw it about 3 years ago here was -19 deg F. We are staying a bit warmer due to the Great Lakes not yet being fully frozen over. They warm the air from the west just a bit until they freeze over.

Us “polar bears” up here are acclimated to handle it.

I remember when I was in FL a couple of years ago. Went swimming in the hotel pool when it was 55 deg outside. All I had to say to commentators is that I’m from MI. I didn’t mention the pool was heated...LOL.

Looks like FL is gonna get nailed in the next day or so. Up go citrus prices!

-50F wind-chill. My chickens are doing ok, but they also refuse to leave the heat lamps. Theyve been locked up indoors since early Dec. All the cattle in the area are locked up indoors, except the herd of bison down the road; they're veritable tanks of meat and fur. My woodburner is also roaring, but even so the propane furnace still kicks on to supplement it every few hours.

200 miles from here in northern MN it was -35F and -70F wind-chill.

Still not as bad as the winter of 1996, when our farm was -40F without wind chill. They hit -70F air temp up in Tower, MN that night!

of the coop for a couple weeks. Too much snow. I keep laying down fresh straw for them to pick through to keep them busy. I'll pick up a head of cabbage at the store tomorrow, hang it from a rope and let them play tether ball with it. I feel badly for them this time of year but they always seem to get through winter unscathed. I've got two girls who are turning 11 this March. It is supposed to get down to 6 degrees tonight...❄️🐔

Going to be mid to low 20's here in SW Austin tonight. High barely got into the mid 30's today and it's going to be the same tomorrow. Nice round of pellet snow last night (just a skiff)

Agree with what you said about the area is just not built or used to even this type of short cold snap. Best thing is it's the first time in several years where we'll have a hard freeze long enough to kill off most of the noxious insects. (Freeze eggs, etc.).

Just wish it was a tad wetter - otherwise bluebonnets and other flowers are not going to be very bright this next spring.

I was watching a news show earlier today and they were showing that Niagara Falls is in the process of freezing. I'd like to see that!
