NO EXCUSES! No "blaming the spouse" ... no "blaming the bookkeeper/CPA" ... no "blaming the IRS" ... no "blaming investigations" ... no "blaming the dog".

This should be AUTOMATIC. No candidate should have to be coerced or threatened into doing the RIGHT THING!! No candidate should have be nagged into this!

An HONEST and RESPECTABLE candidate should be EAGER to do so ... WITHOUT making lame excuses.

California and New Jersey each passed such a law but such laws were vetoed. The New Jersey law will be reintroduced this year and will not be vetoed. Mass. may have such a law on the ballot and other states are looking at these laws.

In many states, the parties cannot stop someone from being on the ballot. These laws provide a mechanism to force a candidate to provide their tax returns or face not being allowed onto the ballot.

I fully expect trump to sue New Jersey and any other state that adopts a ballot access law. Hopefully no Democrat or person seeking to be on the ballot will support Trump's litigation

By making it a requirement for any Dem candidate. Optics are what matter.

These laws are now going to be passed in blue states like New Jersey, Mass and New York. That will put the issue front and center for the 2020 races.

I mean just ask Dem candidates to release their statements for transparency. I think the last poll showed that 70%+ Americans wanted tRump to release his taxes. This has become a an area of interest for Americans. I don't believe it would even matter if it was a law. If Dem candidates release their taxes, that is really good strategy. The public will think back to tRump and realize Dems have nothing to hide, while Rs are conniving cheats. All the better then if the Rs don't want to release their taxes. Let the DNC play up the fact that all our candidates aren't afraid of letting voters see their taxes.

This should and must be entrenched in law. The Honor System can't be relied on anymore (thanks to Republicans).

I read some old papers and early campaigns were every bit as nasty and dishonest as today. We have far more fact checking going on today than they did back in the day. The election of Martin Van Buren was a real doozy. Papers were filled with lies from every direction.

The guy is clearly owned by our enemy, yet they love him.

What lies do they have to tell themselves?

I have a quiz for you them:

"Do you acknowledge Trump is following Bannon's lead in trying to eliminate as much government as possible? Do you own your own home? (they say yes here) you say "Prove it!"

When they figure out how they would go about that, if they have HALF a brain, a light should go on.

Their taxes can show if they’re a lying con artist or legitimate. If they’re going to talk the talk they should walk the walk. We’d not be where we are right this moment if a full tax disclosure were a legally mandated requirement of running for president in this day and age.
