https://www.yahoo.com/news/colorado-gunman-identified-iraq-veteran-190559223.html
A YouTube user identified as Matthew Riehl posted a video Dec. 13, demanding the firing of sheriff Spurlock and listing several personal insults against him. Another deputy was called a "pimp."
Riehl said he would run as a libertarian against Spurlock in 2018 as part of a plan to "fire all these bums come early next year."
A Nov. 28 video showed a traffic stop by an officer in Lone Tree, which Riehl said was done illegally. "Scumbag, dirtbag, liar," he says as the officer questions the driver. "He's the boss, huh? He's the Nazi in charge with the stripes on his shoulder and the fake badge."
..
Riehl served as an Army reservist in Iraq for one year and once practiced law in Wyoming. University of Wyoming law students were warned in November to immediately notify officials if Riehl was seen on campus. "The UW Law School has received information about suspicious behavior involving a former student," read an email from the college's assistant dean. "There have been no direct threats to faculty, staff, or students, but as a precaution, students are being notified of this situation," KTWO radio reported.
Like Ive said. Libertarianism is a disease.

This killer was a RWNJ who liked Pepe the frog and RWNJ memes https://thinkprogress.org/colorado-shooter-right-wing-ed43efc80259/
The man who opened fire on sheriffs deputies in Colorado on New Years Eve, killing one and injuring four others, repeatedly shared far-right memes on his Facebook page and ranted on YouTube about local law enforcement officials.
Matthew Riehl, a 37-year-old National Guard veteran, allegedly shot and killed 29-year-old deputy Zackari Parrish early Sunday morning, after officers responded to reports of a disturbance in suburban Denver. Riehl, who had barricaded himself in his bedroom, also shot and injured four other officers before a SWAT team eventually killed him. The shooting was described by Sheriff Tony Spurlock as an ambush-type attack.
Following the shooting, far-right extremism expert JJ MacNab discovered Riehls since-deleted Facebook page, which was littered with Pepe the Frog memes, Islamophobic posts, and other phrases used by the far-right, including references to cuckoldry and rape culture. He was also pictured in one photo at a tactical training center with an AR-15-style weapon. The center, Kenaz Tactical Group, confirmed in a Facebook post that Riehl took a defensive firearms course over the summer.

(145,321 posts)3. Fox News report on Colorado gunman ignores his white supremacist connections
Who is surprised by this? https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2018/01/02/fox-news-report-colorado-gunman-ignores-his-white-supremacist-connections/218943
After a deadly shooting in Colorado on New Years Eve that left one Douglas County sheriffs deputy dead and four others injured, a Fox News host omitted reports that the gunman had posted white supremacist "alt-right memes on his personal Facebook page. While host Eric Shawn noted that the gunman had posted videos criticizing Colorado law enforcement on social media, he failed to note that the gunmans personal Facebook page is filled with the icons of the white supremacist alt-right." Foxs omission of the gunmans alt-right sympathies echoed its reporting on a February 2017 mosque shooting carried out by an ultranationalist white supremacist in Canada, where the network ignored that shooters far-right background. From the January 2 edition of Fox News Americas Newsroom:
ERIC SHAWN (CO-HOST): There are some new details on the Colorado man who police say shot and killed a deputy and wounded four others. Police were contacted with concerns, they say, about the mental state of the shooter over a month before the New Year's Eve incident. That suspect, you see there on the right, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Riehl. He was an attorney and an Iraq War veteran. He also, they say, posted videos criticizing Colorado law enforcement. Police responded to a complaint at an apartment building south of Denver on Sunday. They say Riehl fired over 100 rounds at the responding officers who eventually shot and killed him.
