My guess is that the Hatch seat is safely Republican?

Please, just like every Republican who at one point stood up to Trump, they all fold and kiss the ring. Romney will be no different. His niece is also the psycho running the RNC.

Yeap, Utah is too red.

Sorry Utah Dems, the joke was there...had to take it. And I love visiting your state, here's to hoping all of Trumps changes to changes to the National Monuments get reversed.

(10,832 posts)Romney's if he wants it. Then we'll see what the man is made of, if he'll push back against the Trumpster or merely roll over like his complicit colleagues. Could go either way: the thorn or the rose.

As Dems,we usually got our 26% of the vote in National Elections, and may be 15-17% in local elections. Only Salt Lake County will give you a solid Dem Victory. There are a few pockets in the South Eastern Counties where we could pull out a Victory.
rogue emissary
(3,148 posts)It would take fifty percent of the Republicans staying home or a third-party challenger running from the right. Say a hard-right challenger to a more moderate Republican refuses to concede after a tough primary. Romney running against a Bannon clone and a Democrat could be a potential pick up.

(3,148 posts)He is the perfect kind of crazy that would run and not conceded in a primary and tank their parties chances in Nov.

(6,709 posts)SLC metropolitan area fairly liberal--elects Dem mayors and such--but that's maybe half the state pop and they don't get 100% of the vote.
Besides, rMoney is their golden boy so I'm sure the seat is safe. Hard to say how strongly he will oppose der fluegelheinie: he did lobby for SoS.

(36,745 posts)He has a 71 pct favorable rating in UT. But he will not be beholden to Dump when elected in a blue tsunami. I expect he will be more moderate than Hatch and will not hold back on Dump.
Still should run a Dem just in case, though. The Dem will force Romney to tack to the center.
