It was literally Sessions, in a moment of weakness, deciding to follow some semblance of respect for the law by recusing himself.
Seriously, does anyone doubt that he would make a different decision if he were given a chance to do it again? Or that the media wouldn't give Trump or Sessions a pass if they simply held their ground and stonewalled any attempt to get to the bottom of the Russia stuff?
And without Mueller, the entirety of the investigation would fall to the media and to Congressional Democrats. I don't have a ton of faith in the former, and the latter are unfortunately shut out of power.
It sends a chill down my spine thinking about how different things might have turned out, and there's still a long way to go.

(25,816 posts)on Sessions part. He was deep in it already. He was dodging.

(11,257 posts)Sessions definitely was deep into it at the time, but I think he misread the potential consequences. For someone like Trump, you can have all the incriminating evidence there is, and he'll just continue to deny everything and act like nothing has happened. For him, anything short of an arrest warrant and handcuffs means another day that he's gotten away with it.
THAT'S what freaks me out. Sessions could have taken that path, and it very well may have worked. Yes, he'd have a "cloud" over him, but a cloud isn't going to take down Trump, Flynn, Manafort, Kushner, etc.

I think the decision will be compared to nixon's decision not to destroy the tapes
