The excerpt of Wolff's I read yesterday had him laying out in no uncertain terms that he was as above board and transparent as he could be, maintaining no pretense about who he was or what he wanted to do, and that Trump was simply too blind to see an author trailing him as anything other than a mechanism to collect even more commercial branding for his own name.

I got the impression that Wolff initially believed he was walking into a lion's den, and that even he he was completely surprised the lion's den turned out to be Col. Klink's Stalag 13.
