WASHINGTON The White House on Friday presented Congress with an expansive list of hard-line immigration measures, including an $18 billion request to build a wall at the Mexican border, that President Trump is demanding in exchange for protecting young undocumented immigrants.
The request, which totals $33 billion over a period of 10 years for border security measures including the wall, could jeopardize bipartisan talks aimed at getting an immigration deal. Among the items on Mr. Trumps immigration wish-list: money to hire 10,000 additional immigration officers, tougher laws for those seeking asylum, and denial of federal grants to so-called sanctuary cities.
The list, delivered to Senator Richard J. Durbin, the Illinois Democrat who has been leading the talks related to young immigrants without documentation, is identical to one Democrats declared a non-starter when the White House issued it in October.
President Trump has said he may need a good government shutdown to get his wall, a furious Mr. Durbin said in an emailed statement Friday afternoon. With this demand, he seems to be heading in that direction.
The senator went on: Its outrageous that the White House would undercut months of bipartisan efforts by again trying to put its entire wish-list of hard-line anti-immigrant bills plus an additional $18 billion in wall funding on the backs of these young people.

(1,580 posts)all he needs to do is send the bill to Mexico. After all, he promised Mexico would pay for the wall. To do otherwise would mean that he was lying. He wouldn't lie, would he? Our precious drumph would never tell a lie. No, never.

(5,126 posts)What is the plan? What is the budget? I've seen estimates for what tRump has described as wanting to do as high as $1 Trillion. So, what prototype are they going with? How are they addressing environmental issues such as disrupting runoff? Whose property are they going to flood? Whose property are they going to bisect? Whose property are they going to take? How does he get Mexico to pay us back? Call DHS, Kelly, Interior, EPA etc. to all testify. Get property owners and Mayors of border locales to testify.
I'm tired of all the bellow and bluster, propaganda, market the brand bull shit. Do the fucking work if you want a wall.... do the studies, the plans, the budget and bring it to Congress for hearings. Let the public see how it will harm property owners and border towns. Let them see the actual expected costs. Let them see the actual expected effect on immigration. Let them see the impacts on economy without transient workers.
"The Wall" is an over-hyped, over-promised bull-shit plan and tRump only wants 18mil to do "something" to sell to his base. It wouldn't be the wall he promised and it wouldn't benefit anyone.
