Who ever said "you can't con a con"?

Michael Wolff conned the entire Trump crowd. They were so desperate for a non-Fox reporter with neutral credentials to write and speak favorably about Donald Trump, that Wolff set the perfect trap.

He flattered Trump and his campaign. he took on respected journalists in defense of Trump. He weaseled his way into the good graces inside the inner circle of the campaign. He was trusted.

Now, Wolff didn't know, and probably didn't think, Trump would win. But even in losing, he must have figured this was a perfect in. Maybe an inside look in Trump TV. After all, Trump would be competing against Murdoch and maybe Wolff could land a cushy gig there. Or, if he scratched the winning ticket, he had inside access to the President of the United States, and almost all his competitors were on the other side. He admitted that he would say anything the Trump team wanted to hear "in order to get the story." Good for him. Fuck the assholes.

Wolff hits me as apolitical. A man without an agenda to grind, just how to get inside the inside and make hay out of it. A con man, much like Trump. He did it before to Murdoch. In fact, he thought that Rupert would blow the whistle on him, once he gained access to the West Wing, but no one caught on.

I believe that his book is very accurate, because he burned his bridges. Almost every reputable reporter has heard, first hand and otherwise, the same stories that Wolff describes in his book. But, they're almost always off the record, deep background. Hence, Trump can call the anonymous sources, "Fake News".

But in Wolff, the entire band of misfits, including Trump, were had. They thought they had an ally in their midst who could be trusted, and they had a fox in the hen house (or should I say wolf). And I believe he didn't care what was on or off the record, he was telling this story and he couldn't have given a fuck about journalistic integrity. Good for him. Those lying pieces of shit deserve it. The Trump gang succeeded because everyone else played by the rules, and they didn't. Now, the shoe is on the other foot and I couldn't be happier that they are getting fucked.

He weaseled his way in, by his own admission. He took statements, recording and notes. I'm sure people were off the record, thought they were off the record, or thought they were speaking with a reporter who was going to treat them like Sean Hannity, and edit their responses to never embarrass them. Instead, they got punked, and badly.

The whole country was conned in 2016 by the king of cons, Donald Trump. An amoral asshole whose only agenda is to do whatever it takes to enrich himself and act as if the rules don't apply to him. Mr. Trump, meet Mr. Wolff.

I can recognize it when they attempt their game with me but they can't recognize it when it is being done to them which baffles me since they know how to scam.

And reported what he saw and heard. Whether it was true or not was not of the most importance. The reporting of the interviews and the rumors and the stories was most important. No two people would have reported it the same.

but couldn't write about it because almost everyone was "off the record".

Reputable journalists would keep that between them. The reporters might tell each other, but not put it in print.

How many reporters do you see on cable that refer to all the Wolff stories as "I've been told the same thing, off the record"?

It validates his book. I think he took a lot of stories, off the record. the Trump crowd was knifing each other in the back, thinking their names would never be mentioned.

Wolff, on the other hand, had a different idea. No source will ever trust Wolff on deep background or off the record ever again. But after this book sale, and probably movie deal, he couldn't give a shit.

46%, strategically placed to give the entire executive branch to a fucking moron.

By the way, 46% was the same total vote Adolf Hitler received in 1932. I'm not saying Trump is like Hitler, what I'm saying is his voters are like Hitler's voters.

In the end, historians always said that Hitler conned all of Germany, but in fact, he won an election with less than a majority.

it was difficult for me to type my post that I disagreed with you. We "won" but we lost. I still don't fully understand how, even with the Russian interference and gerrymandering and disenfranchised voters, that we lost. We all (at least most of us) fully expected the biggest landslide in history, but instead we got the most biting defeat. It still hurts and will continue to do so. For decades.
