No, have not seen the movie yet. Not in wide circulation yet.
But saw a still from it, where Bradlee - Tom Hanks - is in his office, all glass. He is talking to Katherine Graham - Meryl Streep.
And I could not help thinking that in such an office, no one could force any woman to receive unwanted advances, the way Matt Lauer did in his office that he locked.
I am sure that women in the Post were not treated as equals in 1971. And when the Post went after Watergate, someone at the Nixon administration "wished" to cut Graham's nipples.
Still, this image struck me.

(53,843 posts)The beyond disgusting Matt Lauer thing would never happen.
I still wonder to this day how he weaseled his way out of the sexual assault of the woman who passed out in his office?
He had to have had to get assistance to get her dressed and to the hospital. All of that must have been swept under the rug.

(1,231 posts)Couple of thoughts:
1) Great movie
2) Great cast
3) Need to see again
4) As great an actor as Tom Hanks is, I cant conceive re-inventing Ben Bradlee after Jason Robards in All the Presidents Men...but he did it. Including the knocks on the desk. Most brilliant actor of all time, between this and Bridge of Spies.
5) The audience (Northern Va, mostly blue, but...) incredible enthusiasm and tons of applause during the movie.
6) Support of Freedom of the Press lives!
7) Meryl Streep outdid herself...restrained and yet acceessible. The remarks between Kathryn Graham and Ben Bradlee at the end of film are priceless. If you havent read her autoibiography, highly recommend.
8) Kudos to Steven Spielberg.
The comparisons of NYT v US to today was not lost on the audience. The number of comments that the movei-goers expressed during the film was amazing. Like a memory awakening...
Anecdotal, I know, but gave my friends and I a little hope. Cheers!!

(51,627 posts)and this is the one I would like to see. I am sick and trying to save my money to pay my med bills and am living on a no frills budget. I got a movie gift card for Christmas so now I can go. I may even go out to eat at a restaurant with another gift card ( haven't been able to afford that luxury either) and make it a real night out for a change.
