Christie 'absolutely' believes he'd be president if Trump hadn't run

BY OLIVIA BEAVERS - 01/07/18 01:37 PM EST

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said in a new interview he would have definitely won the 2016 presidential election if Donald Trump had not decided to run.

"I absolutely believe if Trump had not gotten into the race I think we would have won," Christie told NJ.com's Matt Arco in an interview published Sunday.

"It's incredibly frustrating to think to yourself, 'Wow, if this guy were not in the race, we'd win this thing,'" he said, while reportedly reflecting on internal polling at the time of last year's campaign.

Christie also said he asked Trump during the 2016 primary not to bring up the so-called "Bridgegate scandal" after Trump mentioned it at a campaign rally. Christie has repeatedly denied knowledge of the decision by two of his associates to shut down lanes on the George Washington Bridge as retribution against a local mayor who withheld support for his reelection.

"You know that's not true, so stop, OK? You want to say other stuff about me? Fine. But that's out of bounds. Stop it," Christie recalled telling the business mogul, according to the report, while noting that Trump didn't bring it up again.

You know, with hate against him, considering both Democrats and Republicans alike can’t stand him.

the most unpopular Governor is NJ's history (with good cause) but thinks he would have won the Presidency? He might have asked Trump to stop with the Bridgegate remarks but there's no way Bridgegate would have been taken off the table had he been the nominee in 2016.

Egomaniacs all have a conflated impression of themselves. Christie lost his shot when he refused to run in 2012 when Republicans were begging him to jump in, even Nancy Reagan.

He blew it. He just cannot admit the truth. Bye-bye, Christie. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

piece of trash - mission accomplished. If trashbag weren't running I think Christie was the next biggest dirtbag running, so yeah he may have had a shot.
