so at best "consent" was given by a peculiar mix of the people and the states that overweights the smaller states.

so that each vote counts.

Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million votes. They were cast. They were counted, but due to the electoral college, THEY DID NOT COUNT.

For shame, America. We talk a lot about democracy, but we make no effort to really be one.

In a democracy, the leader would be elected by all citizens who vote, not just by all but 3,000,000 (three million) who vote.

The Orange One is the President. The only reasonable question is what it to be done now.

The answer to that question is political. The Democrats must take control of the Congress. If the Democrats do not take at least one house in November, I fear for the future of the Republic.

The Orange One could be the last President of the United States. The stakes are that high.

...because we all participate in the democratic process knowing that our system includes the Electoral College, and thus the possibility that the "winner" might wind up not getting the most votes overall.

Beneath the obvious, cheap joke, Republicans never viewed Clinton or Obama's presidencies as legitimate, even though the public did, yet the W Bush and Trump presidencies were arguably not "consensual" with the public.

God I hate the GOP!

the question of a "consensual" elected official is an interesting one.

We've never had a political electee with all the votes. We just had an election called by a drawing. We've had three-ways where a plurality elected the official. We've had 20% turnouts where it seems nobody liked anyone. The electoral college smooth over these kinds of things.

"Consent' is synonymous with "acceptance". Even if we don't like the sumbitch who got elected, we accept the election. Anything else is anarchy. (Of course, we don't always have to keep said sumbitch, but the removal must be orderly and proper)
