In the ancient of days, we thought that suppression of voting had been largely done away with. There were hoary tales of how REHNQUIST and Sandra Day O'CONNOR teethed on it.
The spread of voter ID laws spread with the coming of the 'Baggers. So I went into outraged disbelief.
After the new realities, for the time being anyway, I got to thinking about the literalness of MY voting, like pulling out the drivers license.
And I railed when Colon POWELL and Condo did Shrub-CHEENEE's bidding and got most of us to have to get passports (plus increasing the fees for all related stuff) and have to use them with countries we didn't have to before.
So now it has occurred to me that when I go vote I'll use my passport, with the thought, spoken or not, "I'm using my passport because I feel like I'm in a foreign country."

(10,039 posts)You know, it says on the state departments website that you have to have your parents full names on your birth certificate to get a passport. Do you know if that truly means middle names? Because my parents weren't even asked for their middle names when I was born...

(82,849 posts)Good Americans don't need passports because they're already living the Greatest Country in the World, and have no need to travel to no furrin countries.
I'm just sayin' it now so that when one of our fellow citizens says that very thing you won't be taken completely by surprise.

(506 posts)While probably the best proof of US citizenship, your passport does not have your current address to give proof of residency. I got a passport after 9/11, as I thought passports would become more expensive and more difficult to obtain. I use mine a couple times a year to return to the US after visiting Canada. I feel like I'm living in a foriegn country too.
