He just needs to make sure to keep his related campaign promise - that Mexico pay for it.
We The People will honor him in perpetuity by paying for this sculpture to be used as a decorative finial on each fencepost.
Seriously, even if it got passed, would a wall ever actually get built? I doubt it.

(30,481 posts)I have mentioned this aspect here for years. There seems to be very little care for that aspect even though it is huge. The wall is a political beast with no place in reality. I don't care if its written into legislation that we are paying for four hundred miles of it, as long as amnesty is a part of the deal and not connected to the start of the wall.

(54,770 posts)barbed wire stretched across the USA -- seems acceptable.
That's a big victory for humanity as far as I'm concerned, with something to keep the ignorant white wing racists happy.

(53,410 posts)They could use the wall he wants so much as a negotiating point to get more than Trump wants to concede. They could include his promise not to go after SS or medicare as well as DACA. He's desperate to build that wall. More desperate to do that than anything else he promised his base. Use his megalomania against him and the Republicans.
In the end the wall would be a financial disaster but it would start to show it's negative effects as soon as this Summer when undocumented Mexican labor is non existent to pick the crops. I'm pretty sure no one else will do that job, no matter how much they're hurting financially. And even if they would do the work would they take such low pay? Would there even be enough white Americans to do the job? I truly doubt it.
But the wall also would serve as a physical reminder that the people who proudly voted for him to stick it to those Messicans are paying for it themselves.
Plus I doubt that the wall would actually be built, no matter how much money is thrown at it. Who's going to build it? Illegals? White Flag wearing white people? Trump's base?
And if the wall becomes the huge failure it will be no one but Trump will be blamed. His name and the wall are forever linked. It will hurt the GOP too, for that very reason. Especially if Trump insists on putting his name on it just like a dog marking its territory
Democrats may be missing a real opportunity here if they don't take Trump up on his either/or threat.

(11,330 posts)he wouldn't be able to resist it...it would cost <0.1% of the wall and we can tear it down once he's out of office.
I say we even promise to make his coif in gold....so it shines across the land.

(4,268 posts)they better pass comprehensive immigration reform (the 2013 version) and not just DACA.
The Gang of 8 bill of 2013 addresses almost all the crap they want (minus wall).
Extended family green card/visas gone, enhanced border security tech plus thousands new border patrol check, 10-15 year pathway to citizenship check.
2018 elections are soooooooooo important.
