President Donald Trump likes to brag about having gone to the Wharton School of Finance, a school known for their elite MBA program. As it turns out, however, Trump never got an MBA from the school. In April 2016, while Trump was still duking it out for the Republican nomination, the Associated Press reported on Trumps complicated relationship with Wharton. Though he regularly brought up the school, which is part of the University of Pennsylvania, Trump never received his masters degree from Wharton School of business. In fact, his undergraduate degree isnt even in businessits a bachelor of science in economics.
Earlier this week, Vanity Fairs Kurt Eichenwald resurrected Trumps Wharton deception when the president slipped up and said I went to the best colleges, or college.
As Eichenwald pointed out on Twitter, Trump did indeed go to the famed institution, but only after transferring there from Fordham University, located in New York City. He never made deans list, though he claims to have graduated first in his class.
Whartons graduate business program is the most highly respected in the US, and mentions of Wharton typically denote that program. Trump, Eichenwald said, has been tricking people into believing he has an MBA from the revered school.
Trump has no MBA, Eichenwald tweeted. He cant read a balance sheet.

(115,836 posts)Trump never went to grad school. He graduated from the Wharton division of the University of PA with a bachelor's degree, but he's been riding on the cachet of Wharton's MBA program - he wants everybody to think he went through that program but he didn't. But I thought all this had been revealed and discussed long before the election.

(5,914 posts)The media never talked about it in his run-up to the election.
But we heard plenty about Obama's birth certificate.

(46,182 posts)Trump couldn't get into Wharton without the help of an acquaintance of his brother, family business heir, Fred Trump, Jr.
And Trump never stayed on campus during the week-end for the benefit of research, reading, lectures, etc. He drove back to Brooklyn to work with his father, usually the menial job of collecting rents.

I'm having a hard time believing he has a BS in Economics.

(54,436 posts)Wharton is the business school of Penn, but in all but the most exceptional cases, an undergrad degree from Wharton does not confer an MBA on you, it just paves a smoother road on the way to one if you go on to an MBA graduate program. An undergrad degree in economics does not mean you get an MBA as a package deal. At Penn, to graduate at all (at least from my school, "the college" ), you needed a minimum of three semesters each in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
For one of my social science semesters, I chose economics. It was taught in the Wharton building. My professor was a cool guy named Bill Whitney. He introduced himself by saying, "My name is Bill Whitney. I am your professor. Professor is my title, not my name, so please do not call me 'Professor.' My name is Bill, so please call me 'Bill.'" He was nice, smart, and tough as nails. I had to work my ass off just to get a B from him. With Trump's attention span, Bill Whitney would have flunked him out in a week's time. Well, if Trump's dad made a million dollar donation to the school, then maybe two weeks.

(1,997 posts)I realize that Trump's bachelors degree is in economics, but I'd like to know if an undergrad degree from Wharton is even offered. I went to Stanford, and there is no undergrad business degree there. Does he base the fact the "went to Wharton" on just having taken some classes in the same building?

(26,582 posts)They dont offer a BBA.

(54,436 posts)You could graduate from any of the undergrad divisions wirh a BA in your major, but it still only conferred an undergrad degree on you. Econ majors usually were Wharton grads, nerds like me were usually from "the college," physics majors were often fron the school of engineering, etc. But it was the graduate degrees that carried the weight. A JD from Penn Law was a big deal. An MBA from Wharton was a big deal. Communications fron Annenberg, MD from Penn Medical, etc. An undergrad degree from Wharton meant you took courses in econ and marketing, and had better than a C- GPA.

(5,914 posts)Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he has no idea what numbers mean or how they relate to the real things or concepts that they describe.
He is notorious for throwing percentages and volumes into his speeches that either don't exist or, at times, even contradict what he's talking about.
I seriously doubt that he can even add two single-digit numbers together, if it results in a total of ten or greater.
He has always had people doing the math stuff for him.

New Yorkers have known for decades that Trump didn't have an MBA.
He's a liar and an idiot.

(10,839 posts)when I read Eichenwald's tweet because the Trumpster has always said he went to Wharton and Wharton is indeed a very prestigious graduate school, tough to get into. Then to find out, no Trump transferred to the University of Pennsylvania (not exactly a slouch school) but said Wharton because it sounded better. Meanwhile he accused Barack Obama of getting into Harvard only by virtue of his race.
He really is a lying toad.
