Tweet from Eric Holder: Russian meddling in our elections is a clear and present danger. Fact. Unbelievably no one taking action to prevent harm. Whatever you think of possible Trump involvement all must demand that White House and Congress act to strengthen our electoral systems against the threat-NOW
Why are Dems not doing anything about this? No one is even talking about it really.

(30,481 posts)One of our first items when we get power should be to expand the federal governments involvement in elections. Push boundaries. Make them take us to court. This needs to be done in order to protect the American people. The number one job of the federal government.

(1,663 posts)A thousand times, this! Whether we're talking about the antiabortion movement, marriage "protection" advocates, or school choice, etc.......they all constantly push the local and federal legal limits. In this, we should be more like them!

(39,343 posts)It would also give us legitimacy when we Strike and it should shake the republicans to their core. It will also rip the thin veil off of the administration and leave no doubt that they are Russian puppets.

(4,613 posts)issue for salvaging our Democracy. The disaster of 2016 made that crystal clear. Too many of us are thinking we will, "Throw the bums out!" in the great blue wave of 2018 (and 2020) and I have grave doubts. There's gerrymandering, homegrown interference/suppression/manipulation and Russia. If anything concrete is actually being done about it it sure seems to be way in the background or being kept a big secret. Republicans are complicit. Democratic leadership (I'm looking at you: Pelosi, Schumer and Perez --- as well as others in the House and Senate) should be shouting about this every day and on every TV appearance. November 2018 is around the corner.

(32,895 posts)Republicans are complicit traitors and they are not going to do a damn thing about Russia sitting in the Oval Office. Theyve been there for a year already. Traitorous republicans yawn.

(9,527 posts)All the evidence from polls and the recounts in Wisconsin show there was no vote flipping. I don't see how this is any different than Republicans claiming in person voter fraud is a thing.

Let's try not to ignore the unknowability of the question, and get our security system up and running.

(7,077 posts)Obviously no politician should campaign on any such accusations of flipping or vote count tampering - it would only further marginalize any party or candidate (eg Roy Moore) unless there was a near-literal tide of evidence of vote flipping (which there is not).
While perhaps helpful for lobbying, basing one's 'beliefs' on political argumentation (whether platform, soapbox or cocktail party) is not a particularly wise strategy for actual knowledge (to say nothing of wisdom). It may be that whatever your circles, you are thinking less astutely and critically about actual reality in favor of more malleable and less challenging political reality.

(7,077 posts)...we won't do it by insisting we already can place such confidence and trust in the integrity of our electoral systems.

(17,019 posts)Changing data without leaving a trail is incredibly difficult if not down right impossible. Stealing data on the other hand is much, much easier. If there's a weak leak it's the electronic voting machines but that would be a local issue.

Why are exit polls so successfully indicative of results in other nations?

The Virginia Governors race was won by a much larger margin than polling suggested; vote flipping?

(629 posts)We should not have to worry about hacking elections if all the politicians who run are for "we the people." It should not matter whether a republican or democrat get into office because both parties have the wellness of our nation in their hearts first. What we have now driven by greed mostly is a pre-revolution. Whether we will have a revolution driven by the greed to hold dominion over the masses or the masses revolting against the greed we will just have to wait to find out. Either way, our system is broken and I fear cannot be repaired.
