Three times the GOP won the Electoral College and the election while the Democrats won the popular vote, two times in the last five elections.
Why isn't anybody questioning this mamaluke ?

(685 posts)they still get i think it's 50 EC votes. I'm not sure if the 3 million is just for CA or the country

(6,377 posts)Hillary had 3 million more votes because she ran up huge margins in places like California and New York, but you still only get a specific number of electoral votes no matter how many votes you get in those states. Then she didn't have good turnout in swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania.

(52,317 posts)if a state has 10 representatives and 2 senators, then it have 12 electoral votes.
so it is roughly based on population, but smaller states have an advantage due to the extra two votes each state gets simply for being a state.

(47,953 posts)Because the US capped the total at 525 back early last century. Number of EC representatives per voter varies widely
The average electoral vote represents 436,000 people, but that number rises and falls per state depending on that states population over 18 years of age. (The map above shows the population 18 years and older per electoral vote by state.) The states with the fewest people per electoral vote, and therefore the highest vote power, are Wyoming, Vermont, and North Dakota. In Wyoming, there are 143,000 people for each of its three electoral votes. The states with the weakest votes are New York, Florida, and California. These states each have around 500,000 people for each electoral vote.

(1,822 posts)The GOP media machine will say that these 3 states = 100 EC votes, so a DEM only has to win another 170 outside of those 3 states.

(52,317 posts)so republicans have to get more of the "leans" and "toss-ups" than democrats.
it's not a structural advantage democrats have, we have the advantage because we're the preferred party.

Not sure it's all on the Electoral College.
If less than 100k voters across 3 states hadn't been conned we wouldn't have twitler for president now.
