Schiff: GOP blocking key witnesses in effort to scuttle House Russia inquiry

(CNN)Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said Thursday that Republicans are blocking dozens of witnesses from being interviewed in the Russia probe, including some who were aware of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting where Donald Trump Jr. was promised dirt on the Clinton campaign.

In a briefing with reporters, Schiff accused Republicans of blocking the inquiry from moving ahead, leaving key questions unanswered. He said that the House Intelligence Committee has spoken to 56 witnesses, fewer than half of the number in the Senate Intelligence Committee. Among the witnesses he wants to interview: Ivanka Trump, plus he says the panel should consider issuing a subpoena to Trump Jr. for information he withheld during his classified hearing last year.

"We can't do a thorough and credible investigation unless we obtain these documents -- unless we talk to these witnesses," Schiff said.

Schiff placed the blame largely on Republican Devin Nunes, saying the GOP chairman of the committee -- who stepped aside from running the investigation for much of last year -- has blocked dozens of requests for witnesses and subpoenas, with the support of House Speaker Paul Ryan.

This has been an on going problem yet nothing has or will be done about it. The repubs rule this nation, get used to it folks.

This was proven with the Senate Judiciary Committee and flipping on releasing the Fusion GPS testimony as well as the Nunes complicity and the moron. The Senate Intel Committee is the only one left that is even attempting to act in a non partisan way. We all knew this would happen.

They will try to discredit Mueler and his investigation and I have no doubt that they will succeed to a degree.

This is why Pelosi, and a lot of Dems in both chambers introduced bill over 6 months ago citing the need for an Independent Investigation Commission like the one in 9/11. That commission was fully funded and staffed, relatively quick, transparent and the results were disclosed to the public AND NON PARTISAN!!!!! And this is why the GOP controlled Congress has not and will never sign it. They always wanted to derail the investigation. Now that the GOP has flipped and done a 180 in the last 6 months people are finally realizing why this is necessary. The GOP is being blackmailed and/or involved in taking campaign $$$ from Russians so they are guilty too and Mueller's got a computer hacking specialist and a money laundering specialist on his team. They are scared and should be!
