Poll: Trump's approval rating erodes in Georgia

President Trump's approval rating has plummeted in Georgia, a state he won by more than 5 points in the 2016 election, according to a new Atlanta Journal Constitution poll.

According to the survey, which was conducted by the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs, only 36.7 percent of respondents in the state approve of the job Trump is doing in office, compared with 58.7 percent who do not.

That's significantly different from an earlier AJC poll in January 2017, which found Georgia voters split in their views of Trump.

Now, nearly a year into Trump's tenure at the White House, nearly six-in-10 voters in Georgia hold an unfavorable view of the president.



Views of Trump were largely split along party lines, according to the poll. Among those who voted for Trump in November 2016, 85 percent said they approve of his first year in office.

On the other hand, an overwhelming majority of Democratic respondents - 97 percent - disapprove of the job he's doing in office.


Trump beat out Hillary Clinton in Georgia in 2016 by more than 200,000 votes.

The poll, which surveyed 940 voters, also found that a majority of Georgia voters - 57 percent - are not satisfied with the way things are going in the United States, AJC reported. By contrast, about 40 percent said they were very satisfied or somewhat satisfied.
