Texas Democrat Al Green vowed on Friday to force another impeachment vote on the House floor next week. The announcement was made on the back of President Donald Trumps reported description of African nations, El Salvador and Haiti as shithole countries.
Congressional condemnation of racist bigotry is not enough, Green said in a tweet. In Congress, talk is cheap-its how we vote that counts. Next week, I will again bring a resolution to impeach @realDonaldTrump. I will put my vote where my mouth is.
On Thursday, The Washington Post reported that, while being briefed on immigration, Trump questioned why immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries were brought over declaring, Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?
It is not the first time Green has pushed to impeach a president. Just last monthin the largest move yet to impeach TrumpGreen brought the vote to the floor.

I'm still waiting for all the indictments Mueller is supposedly getting ready to unleash.

(56,828 posts)has any other Republican in the House forcefully denounced Trump's remarks? Paul Ryan merely used "unfortunate" in passing. Until we get a groundswell of Republicans, nothing will happen

(6,075 posts)The House indicts, the Senate convicts. There's no appeal and the guidelines are vague. In theory, a president could be removed from office for picking his nose.

(12,344 posts)It's a quasi-judicial process. And do you really want tp set a precedent for impeachment over nose picking? What do you think the next GOP Congress is going to do to the next Dem President over that one?

(6,075 posts)Impeachment should be treated with the gravity of a major criminal case, but then the GOP impeached Clinton. One big downside of a nakedly political process is that the Congress could willfully not act when the POTUS is guilty of egregious crimes that would result in serious hard time for anyone else.
