Is the media underestimating the effect of extreme income inequality?

We often hear from the media that President Trump's rating are low despite the strong economy, but they never bring that into context with the extreme income inequality. News outlets like CNN and MSNBC have corporate sponsors whose shareholders are doing very well in a growing economy due to the current structure, while average people are kept down due to things like a low minimum wage, outsourcing and large trade deficits. Fox News comes under this affect , and they also prescribe to the conservative ideology which is naturally disregarding of the issue. People can recognize that the economy is getting stronger, creating more jobs, but they also realize that wages are still low.

Really good point. They go to a couple of areas known for poverty, but neglect to mention others. tonyt53 Jan 2018 #1

Hell, everybody knows that ALL cities have areas of extreme poverty. But in much of the south especially, there are entire counties - connected other counties that are just like it. It isn't just the south either though. I've been through some damned poverty stricken areas in northern states too. Entire towns and entire counties. Poor as dirt. Many of those places do have employers, but they will never pay above the minimum wage and will never offer any benefits.
