.... non-political aspects of Trump's behavior? That is, who are not just "approving" because they can't not approve of a Republican president? People who are "approving" because they think/behave like Trump, or wish they did?

(99,710 posts)If Trump was normal his approval ratings would be in the high 50s instead of the high 30s. If we can be thankful for anything we can be thankful he's abnormal. We would be getting the same policies from Rubio, Cruz, or Christie sans the aberrant nonsense.
that's my best guess

(7,432 posts)That SHOULD be a shock to the rest of the nation. But it isn't. The GOP voter is hopelessly entranced by the characterization of Trumpy as a "strong leader." It's his authoritarian persona that they like so much. In reality, Trumpy is a mental weakling and a coward who pretends to be strong. That jutting of the jaw between phrases while at the microphone, that Mussolini look, gives him credibility for his base, and that's ALL THEY NEED. But Trumpy is terrified and paranoid and despotic. All of his staff knows this. His Fanboys are unphased by the reality of Trumpy's approach to governance. They want the IMAGE of a strong leader, and they don't care whether the image is a reflection of reality. They are immersed in TV land, where "image" is everything.

(32,005 posts)Unfortunately, The shithead simply sanctions the vile and racists beliefs of many Americans. They feel emboldened now, they don't have to keep their beliefs hidden any more.
They don't care about his moral character, not at all. As long as he implements their agenda of deporting all immigrants, building that stupid wall, and maybe screwing the poor out of health care .... they don't care if he stands in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoots someone .... if you all recall that line from last year's campaign ....

They would never say it but their silence is deafening. If they are happy they brag about it, share stuff on Facebook and even call me more. I haven't heard from them, not even a peep, for more than a week which is how I know they are embarrassed and not happy with Trump currently.
I realize it's just an anecdote but that is my barometer and is pretty accurate for me.
