No one knows how the disaster of electing Shithole will end. I believe its fair to say it will end badly.
I have decided to build up my savings account and I am in constant touch with the person who manages my 401k. I am also putting down more money on my car payment and house payment ever month. My wife and I have to sacrifice in order to do this things. Not a lot of disposable income left over. We are ok with that.

(3,515 posts)Our economy has not really improved enough to justify the rise in stock prices.
There is something amiss there.

(47,124 posts)They inflated the value of accounts before the crash.
And some how the money ended up in their pockets.

(3,515 posts)I am by no means an economist, but at one point in my life I read the history of that crash. An overheated stock market is not comforting to me.

Banks made out like bandits.
So yes, it is possible that it can happen again.

(45,806 posts)is heading to another market crash. All the professionals state the markets are way overpriced and forecast a correction. Housing prices have again risen too high, too quick, and the last time we saw that wasn't that long ago. I'm watching closely because we're in our mid 70's and can't risk losing what little we have in our 401ks. If America can survive The Conman without getting into another war and another recession, we sure better have learned some very important lessons. Running a Country the size of the USA IS a difficult job, and can't be done by any ONE person, especially one who gets elected because his entertaining, and hires a lot of his incapable buddies for his cabinet and advisers. Any President needs experienced people in those positions to help him/her.
With all the talk of Oprah and other entertainers being a candidates in 2020, it sure looks like we haven't learned yet!

(3,515 posts)We need a candidate who is not only able to captivate an audience, a very large audience, but who understands the issues and can discuss them intelligently.
We need a candidate who draws large numbers of people to him or her. I don't know potential candidates well enough to know who that is.
When it comes to personality, Oprah is the kind of person we want. I have no idea where she stands on the issues, so I am neither for or against her. I haven't watched her show, so, I'm neutral on that. But we need someone with her kind of attractive personality. Obama was one such person. Many of us felt comfort and confidence just watching him on videos or hearing his voice. I know that is overly emotional for many people, but voters often vote based on on reason but on emotion.

(89 posts)I'm looking to immigrate.
It's not that easy. I'm collecting my SS.I had to early because of an injury. I'm not on disability. I really do believe that the Repubs are gonna wipe that out. It's just a matter of time. I'm a musician & a band in Ireland would love to have my services. However you need a bit of $$$ for a work permit, residency permit, etc. I have some health issues & they want to know how much of a burden one will be on their social service system. They also wonder(& rightfully so) why an Irish musician couldn't do the same job. I'm 64 years old so unless you have a skill they need or a lot of $$(I don't) or are starting a business you're not exactly a prime candidate. Not to mention the weird American expat tax situation.
Still,the window's not closed.

(4,379 posts)Everything Shithole and the republicans are doing is for short term gain. They don't look ahead. They don't care about future consequences. They are greedy dumb fucking assholes. Giant tax cuts for the rich, massive deregulation, messing with healthcare, messing with immigration all have long term effects on the economy.
Foreign affairs, Trump has changed who we are. No one can predict how that will turn out long term.
One day we will all pay.
Bottom line, This will end badly. How and how badly still needs to be answered.
