Biden Urges Young People to Get Involved

January 13, 2018 at 6:34 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Former Vice President Joe Biden told the Los Angeles Times that he has little sympathy for millennials who think they have it tough.

Said Biden: “The younger generation now tells me how tough things are. Give me a break. No, no, I have no empathy for it. Give me a break. Because here’s the deal guys, we decided we were gonna change the world. And we did. We did. We finished the civil rights movement in the first stage. The women’s movement came to be. So my message is, get involved. There’s no place to hide.”

He added: “There’s an old expression my philosophy professor would always use from Plato, ‘The penalty people face for not being involved in politics is being governed by people worse than themselves.’ It’s wide open. Go out and change it.”

Nam in body bags. Women had limited career options. Minorities were treated horribly.

When my father was young, he was a gunner in a tin bucket flying the Burma Hump
in WW II, a very dangerous job.

When my grandparents were young, they were literally starving in shit hole countries.
Left their homes to migrate to the US.

At first, I was not sure I liked Biden's comments about young people, but after I thought
about it, I think he is correct.

Has not been this great since the 30's and it is only getting worse. The national debt is growing at an obscene rate. A college education leaves them with a debt that looks like the mortgage on their parents first home. I think the biggest frustration they have is a sense that they will not achieve as much as their parents. The economy has shifted in ways that is going to make is difficult for many to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps." I don't think they understand how political policy can change that. I believe the Dems could do a much better job of educating people about that although they haven't been that outspoken about income inequality.
