**Breaking** (confirmed): Trey Gowdy has resigned from the House Ethics Cmte!**

Off to find more info-- initially only lots of RW sources reporting in addition to Dworkin (e.g., Daily Caller)

On edit 2: Despite the excitement from Dworkin, as DU poster StevieM and L. Coyote have suggested, this may reflect only Gowdy's assumption of the Oversight Committee Chair. That is certainly the view expressed on conservative sites. Obviously, we'd all like it to reflect something MORE in the offing. I guess we will have to wait and see...

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee. That is the committee that the GOP use to target Democratic presidents and presidential candidates. The Ethics Committee handles wayward House members.

Gowdy got rewarded for his work on Benghazi. They are now counting on him to follow in Jason Chaffetz's footsteps.

On Edit: Of course, we shouldn't forget that Hillary obliterated him. But the important thing, from the Republicans' perspective, is that he tried. He proved his total lack of ethics to them.

32. The GOPee's vile scheme
Sat Jan 13, 2018, 04:21 PM
Jan 2018

to conduct phony "investigations" of dems in order to smear them and drive down their poll numbers wouldn't work, of course, if the corporate mediaduh didn't give them a platform and confer legitimacy on their efforts.

But by buying into the madness and diligently covering all of these propaganda exercises, the media plays its part by getting the intended message out. Average 'Muricans who just casually listen to the news come away shaking their heads and imbibing the message that there is wrongdoing by the targets and that both parties are equally corrupt.

Oh, and of course, the GOPee hucksters who will be the puppetmasters for gowdy will be covering up and failing to investigate GOPee criminal activities, i.e. actual scandals.

As a condition of his resignation being accepted, he has to turn over all of his assets to the U.S. Treasury.

Otherwise, he can rot in Congress until his ass gets officially booted out this November, taking consequences of all of his actions.

There was talk of Gowdy replacing Sessions if Jeffy was asked to resigned.

I don't see the point of resigning his post ahead of time.

Maybe this was the purpose of the mtg between the FBI Director and Rosenstein, and then the FBI Director & Rosenstein with Paul Ryan?

Who knows. Congress is so corrupt and such a mess. Hard to know what's going on there.
