... it is heartbreaking. Trump couldn't be bothered to put down the golf club and tweet that it was all a false alert and there was nothing to worry about because A) He's an ignorant, stupid POS, B) Fuck that blue state and C) He has all the leadership capabilities of a flea's asshole.

On the darker side, while I haven't heard of any crimes/suicides happening in Hawaii during those few moments, what if someone decided to "settle the score" with an enemy? Or rob a liquor store of expensive champagne? Or even decide to kill themselves rather than face annihilation? Sounds far-fetched, but I remember Stephen King writing about an aunt he had who heard the "War of the Worlds" broadcast in 1939, thought it was real, and intended to slit her wrists as soon as she saw the "Martian ships."

It could also cause panic leading to car
accidents, trampling, heart attacks. That’s why I believe it was a hack. I don’t buy that emergency managers are so dim witted as to not have control systems built in.

I imagine they are still in shock there, with stories to trickle out.

You make an excellent point. That could have easily happened. What do officials say then? "Oopsie, my bad" to their families at their funerals?

Or, imagine confessing to your spouse about marital indiscretions, just to clear your conscience
before you were incinerated?

who have to live under this presidency and administration.

Can't imagine what this morning was like for some people in Hawaii. Finally got in touch with a cousin on Oahu and he is pissed beyond measure.

You seem angry that I posted this. Didn't mean anything insulting--just aware of how many people were needlessly frightened.

Bungling press conferences are one thing, but stupidity when it comes to our national defense and nuclear missiles is incomprehensible and terrifying.

Glad you are well.

I know Gene.

The visitors were freaking out. My family was freaking out. I'd forgotten to turn my ringer off when I left "The Post" last night and didn't see the alert but got the word ten other ways.

There are no shelters here, really, unless you live in a concrete building. The idea of surviving is worse than being vaporized.

For whatever impression I gave of anger, not my intention.

Peace.

Those poor people who had to live through those moments of terror and it's all on Donald Trump, who couldn't even fucking be bothered to respond to this situation! He has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety that won't go away until HE DOES!

That he has nukes that can reach US Territories and Hawaii?

But when you get that kind of alert, reason goes out the window.
And the fact that people believe it can be true, tells you the
that people know the situation with NK and Trump could be
quite serious.

he is mentally ill, ignorant and impulsive.

Also military leaders, in an extraordinary set of announcements, have said they will not
launch nukes on Trump's command.

All of this might make us safer, but then again when no one is in command of a situation,
all kinds of screw ups can occur. Perhaps Pence is calling the shots right now.
Or Kelly.

Although I recognize that I'm not all that knowledgeable about how to tamper with electronic devices of any kind.

What happened today in Hawaii is simply a kind of fuck-up that happens a lot in various ways. I have often heard stories that this country has come very close to nuclear war more than once because of erroneous information being received by the military. Human error is always a problem everywhere.

Why not let their last 20 minutes alive be happy ones? Sending an alert that "you're going to die in 20 minutes", whether true or false, seems cruel.

Whether it is the scare of nuclear war in Hawaii

or kids that were given promises in DACA living in terror from day to day with their status taken away and unable to work ...

or parents of kids that need CHIPs healthcare with no funding to keep it going

or folks reliant on Obamacare

or folks worried about what the GOP are going to do to social security or Medcaid/Medicare to pay for the trillion dollars in Trump tax cuts

There is a human cost to this type of government - it distresses many of it's people.

And the numbskulls orchestrating it could care less.

It's a disgrace.

The only solace is what goes around comes around. The American people will eventually have their day with these heartless criminals
