After outcry, Mark Wahlberg donates $1.5 million film fee

NEW YORK (AP) — Following an outcry over a significant disparity in pay between co-stars, Mark Wahlberg agreed Saturday to donate the $1.5 million he earned for reshoots for "All the Money in the World" to the sexual misconduct defense initiative Time's Up.

Wahlberg said he'll donate the money in the name of his co-star, Michelle Williams, who reportedly made less than $1,000 on the reshoots.

"I 100% support the fight for fair pay," Wahlberg said in a statement.

The announcement Saturday came after directors and stars, including Jessica Chastain and Judd Apatow, shared their shock at reports of the huge pay disparity for the Ridley Scott film. The 10 days of reshoots were necessary after Kevin Spacey was replaced by Christopher Plummer when accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced against Spacey. USA Today reported Williams was paid less than $1,000 for the 10 days.

Wahlberg's agent got him a better contract on the movie. Williams contract included the requirement to do unpaid reshoots, as did the others. So Wahlberg got barbecued for nothing. This had nothing to do with equal pay or any other social cause. Maybe the, women ought to rethink their choice of agents.

My first thought was Michelle Williams should have done a better job negotiating her salary for the reshoots. She should have refused to do the reshoots of $89 a day. We really do need to teach women how to negotiate better. I get that there can be negative consequences for women who demand more money, but we have to encourage women to demand more and refuse to work if they do not get what they want.

Entry level clerical workers can make $89 a day. She, or her team should have told the movie producers, "if Ms. Williams wanted to make $89 a day she would have become a Receptionist, or an Administrative Assistant. She became an Actress, so you are going to have to pay her accordingly."

The only reason I went up to him is because he had a little German Shepard puppy with him and I was just so smitten. I spoke with him for a little while about the dog and he answered some of my questions. He was very polite and nice. I thought he looked like Mark Wahlberg, but thought he was too short and he had a baseball cap on. Then I went home and looked him up and found out the things we talked about were corroborated and realized it was actually him (and he actually is really short). I was kind of amazed that he was so patient with me and so kind.

Anyway, he did a good thing this time around.
