Vocabulary Quiz

The neutral-connotation term "sex worker" replaces which negative-connotation term:

a) Prostitute
b) Porn Star
c) Whore
d) All of the above

If you chose "D", give yourself a nice reward!

I'd sorta like to see us use neutral-connotation terms (both gender- and judgment-) instead of terms that carry a big, heavy weight of negative gender-associated stereotype, stigma, and judgment.

Just sayin'...

diffidently,
Bright

...there are also legions of girls and women who are put in such straits not by choice, but through force or coercion. To call someone victimized in such a manner a "sex worker" is to whitewash her plight as legitimate employment.
It goes without saying, of course, that none of the other unkind terms in the vocabulary list should be applied to such girls or women.

In social work, the coming parlance is "WSE" or "woman/women sexually exploited".

I know a couple of women who work in the anti-trafficking field and they tell stories that break my heart. I don't know how they do it, day after day, without becoming homicidal.

sadly,
