In his latest interview, when he said, "I am the least racist president" he used the signal for White Supremacy at the exact time he said it.
Don't tell me it is just a peculiarity with him. I've watched other times that he has talked and he doesn't use that sign. He used it constantly when he was campaigning.
I think this needs to come out in the open. People need to learn about it and he needs to know that people who aren't racist know what he is doing. If we shine a light on it we can take its' power away

(26,263 posts)and I was labeled as a 'mark', by one poster, for doing so. I'd always called it the 'okey dokey' sign and blew this gesture off as an annoying trump* idiosyncrasy. I'm not sure if his use of it is just a coincidence, or not.

(22,482 posts)are trying very hard to stop this narrative.
But if the known white supremacists are doing it openly and flagrantly why can't we point out that drump is doing it openly? If he is doing it unconsciously then when he finds out what it means he should stop doing it right? We'll see.

(26,263 posts)I have no doubt as to the motivation of the guy in the group photo. Just as I have no doubt as to how certain groups are utilizing that gesture.
I always found trump*'s use of it to be extremely childish and annoying but if he's using it as a persistent signal, he likely doesn't care what people in his not-targeted audience think.

(1,009 posts)And I remained absolutely convinced from the campaign till now. However, many people on the left still dont believe it. They think hes not capable of strategizing or manipulating in any way because hes too stupid.
It doesnt take a stable genius to use a little ole dog whistle. With steven miller whispering in your ear dont forget the hand signal, our base will love it.

(11,243 posts)A subset of white supremacists have appropriated pre-Christian Nordic cultural symbols and religion. Some of them are into Norse gods and Vikings now. It doesn't make sense that Trump would welcome a bunch of socialists moving here from Northern Europe, even if they are white, but if Norwegian is code for white supremacist Odinists (not all Odinists, of course), the reason for that comment becomes clear.

(3,282 posts)But then it got reported in the news somewhere, and 4chan started laughing their asses off. Meanwhile, actual white nationalists started really adopting it because they thought it would be a great way to "own the libtards" who took the joke so seriously. It's a very strange position, now, where it started as a joke, was reported as real, and then actually became real in some circles.
Here's the biggest problem: Because it started as a joke, if you take it seriously, you can be shot down for believe what really was a joke at its beginning. Meanwhile, knowing that they can get away with it by saying, "LOL, it's all for the lulz you snowflake!" neo-nazis and white nationalists are actually using it to signal, as in the photo with the intern.
Here's a BuzzFeed piece about how channers just want to sow discord and chaos and make sure there's no such thing as "facts" any more:

(146,317 posts)between the #1 and OK hand signs when he speaks. It could be the WP hand sign, but likely is not. I think someone told him that those two signs were good to use during speeches to punctuate his points. Like everything else he does, he overuses them, so they have lost any impact they might have had.
He just repeats the two signs over and over again, without any connection to what he is saying. He is an idiot. Being an idiot is probably all the explanation there is for this.

(58,785 posts)And stupid. These overt signals are going to bite him and force conservatives, including the type who mainly voted for Gorsuch for instance, to make further choices about just how far they're going to support their party's man.
Contrary to the belief of many here, at least half of all conservatives don't think of themselves as bigots and disapprove of it.

(1,606 posts)He's just impotently making flailing hand gestures as per usual, nothing to see here.
Just a troll/gag.
4chan origin trolling is pretty successful which really just speaks volumes for the lack of critical thinking out there.
Another great example- many years ago on 4chan it was a gag to promote the "flat earth" shit. It was a great laugh to see how many would actually fall for it. Now look, years later we have many idiot youtube "expert" videos and actual dingalings who believe it's true. The jokey hoax troll from over a decade ago on 4chan actually has many stupes who think it is real, and make up their own diatribes to support it and spread the baloney. Fascinating really, when you look at the whole thing as an objective observer.
Just goes to show how easy it is to proliferate trolling nonsense, because many are willing to jump on the bandwagon of "I know this big secret thing that you don't know- let me tell you" (I dunno I just find it really interesting how this kind of thing happens from an objective psychological/human behavior standpoint)
Anyway about the "OK" thing, just dust off the critical thinking cap for a moment.

Anyway, known troll, just bullshit.
That is all.

(22,482 posts)And on your link it says that the sign is currently being researched. So they don't even think it is a done deal.
Things change all the time. Gangs change signals or bandannas or whatever. That is the way it is in life.
And try not talking down to people on threads. You can disagree politely like most of the people on this site do.
Kimchijeon
(1,606 posts)The "OK" sign thing is more like one of those instances of a troll that is now being actually used by racists who took it seriously etc. (Like the flat earth joke, now it has people who fell for it perpetuating the "conspiracy theory"
Also, since people get offended by something, the opposition (the racists) pick up on that, and do it more, just to piss off the other side.
It's just trolls seeing something they can use to incite a reaction & exploiting it for maximum giggles.
In the case of Trump himself having any conscious thought about it- What I was saying is no, he is not that bright. Why attribute intellect where there is none? We already know what a dingbat Trump is.
Hanlon's razor - "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
And just to clarify in the unlikely event I am misunderstood... I am referring to Trump being the dummy, not anyone here lol.

(34,661 posts)Many years, decades, back. The use of hand gestures was part of Public Speaking training classes. If you have read a Dale Carnegie Book, the use of gestures is used to keep your audience focused on your topic
Do not recall the used of the Okay or White Power Symbol being mentioned. So Trump has taught himself to use this when he speaks. Remember,he is a self trained Actor and nothing more.

(47,114 posts)everything. Which is a good thing.
I don't have an opinion on Trump's hand gestures, but it could be
related to con artist communication, trying to appear likable and communicative.
Or related to his dementia, a way to prop us his inability to speak in complex, rich ways.
To distract from the fact he is not saying much.
